OnePlus R-series phones pair high-tier performance hardware and fast displays with a more focused feature set than the flagship line. In the current comparison, the OnePlus 15R has a 165Hz display, a large battery and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5; the OnePlus 15 adds a dedicated optical-zoom telephoto camera, faster wired charging, wireless charging and a higher-memory configuration. The clearest trade-offs are camera versatility and charging—not a basic-versus-premium divide in core specs.
How the OnePlus 15R compares with the OnePlus 15
The current OnePlus 15R and OnePlus 15 specifications show where the R-series model keeps pace and where the flagship adds hardware. The figures below come from OnePlus’s US OnePlus 15R specifications and Global OnePlus 15 specifications. Configurations and features may vary by region.

What the R-series model offers
High-tier performance hardware
The 15R is not a basic-spec phone: OnePlus lists Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, 12GB LPDDR5X Ultra memory and UFS 4.1 storage. The OnePlus 15 moves to Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and offers a 16GB memory configuration, but the published specifications alone do not quantify the practical performance gap.
A high-refresh display and large stated battery
OnePlus lists a maximum 165Hz refresh rate for both models, but the conditions differ: the 15R’s 144Hz and 165Hz modes are supported only in listed apps, while the 15’s 165Hz maximum is specified for gaming and its display otherwise uses an adaptive 1–120Hz range. The 15R’s listed 7,400mAh typical capacity is slightly greater than the 15’s 7,300mAh dual-cell figure. Neither comparison proves which screen is smoother in every app or which phone has longer battery life.

OnePlus’s gaming claim has a defined scope
OnePlus says the 15R supports “always-on 120 FPS on MLBB for at least 60 minutes,” attributing the statement to its Test Laboratory. The company also says frame rate may vary with environment or actual usage. Treat this as a manufacturer test claim, not an independent benchmark or a promise of that frame rate across games.
What you give up compared with the flagship
A dedicated optical-zoom camera
The most concrete camera difference in the listed hardware is the OnePlus 15’s 50MP telephoto camera with 3.5× optical zoom and OIS. The 15R lists a 50MP main camera with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide, without a dedicated telephoto camera. That makes the flagship the more versatile option on paper for subjects that benefit from optical zoom. These specs do not establish overall photo quality.

Faster charging and wireless charging
The OnePlus 15 lists 120W wired and 50W wireless charging. The 15R lists 55W SUPERVOOC, with up to 80W possible when used with a specified OnePlus 100W dual-port adapter. Wireless charging is not listed in the cited 15R specifications. The adapter-dependent 80W figure is not a claim that the adapter comes in the box.

A higher RAM configuration
The 15R is listed with 12GB of RAM, while the OnePlus 15 also has a 16GB option. Both models list 256GB and 512GB UFS 4.1 storage, so the published configurations do not show a storage-capacity advantage for the flagship.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose between the R-series and flagship
- Choose based on camera needs: If a dedicated telephoto camera and 3.5× optical zoom matter, the OnePlus 15 is the model with that listed hardware.
- Compare charging habits: The 15’s specifications include wireless charging and higher wired charging. The 15R’s listed wired rate is lower, and its cited specifications do not list wireless charging.
- Consider configuration, not just the processor name: Both have 12GB options and the same listed storage capacities, while the 15 adds a 16GB RAM choice and a higher-tier processor platform.
- Check display and battery details in context: Both advertise a 165Hz maximum under different conditions. The 15R’s stated battery capacity is marginally larger, but capacity is not a runtime test.
- Compare local prices and exact regional models: The cited specification pages do not provide a consistent price comparison. Check current prices, configuration, carrier support and regional features where you plan to buy.
What the specifications cannot settle
These official OnePlus pages describe product specifications and company claims, not independent performance, camera-quality or battery-life tests. They also do not establish a full R-series history, software-support duration, or market-by-market value. Regional features and accessories can differ, so verify the exact model offered in your country before relying on a US 15R or Global 15 specification.
