At its October 1, 2026, appearance at the Wolfe Research Utilities, Midstream & Clean Energy Conference, NextEra Energy said its growth plan was advancing across regulated utilities, renewables, storage and new large-load opportunities. Its presentation raised Florida Power & Light’s expected large-load additions to 8 gigawatts by 2032 and set an expectation of at least 8% annual adjusted EPS growth through 2032 on a stand-alone basis. A faster-growth case for NextEra combined with Dominion Energy is conditional on the proposed transaction, which the company’s model assumed would close in the second half of 2027.
What NextEra presented at the conference
NextEra Energy CEO John Ketchum was scheduled to take part in a noon Eastern fireside chat at the New York City conference on October 1, 2026. The company said the discussion would cover long-term growth-rate expectations for NextEra and for the proposed combined company with Dominion Energy. The company’s investor events listing announced the appearance.
The central message in the October presentation was that growth could come from a broad portfolio, not one technology or customer segment. NextEra described progress in regulated utility investment, transmission, renewables and storage, gas generation, nuclear, customer supply, power-purchase-agreement recontracting, large-load customers and technology initiatives. The slides reported 9.3% year-to-date growth in FPL regulatory capital employed, 9.5% year-to-date adjusted earnings growth, and more than 20 GW of opportunities across federal hubs and the Paducah Energy Hub. The company also said roughly two-thirds of its 2026–2029 renewables and storage development expectations were already in backlog or at commercial operation.
These are company-reported measures and pipeline figures, not proof that every opportunity has been built, contracted or begun generating revenue. The presentation supplies the company’s definitions and periods; adjusted earnings and adjusted EPS are non-GAAP measures. How the growth plan is changing
More expected large-load demand in Florida
NextEra raised its expectation for FPL large-load additions from 6 GW to 8 GW by 2032. The figure is a forecast for large-load demand, not capacity already connected to FPL’s system. In the conference transcript, Ketchum also said management expected to announce a major data-center customer by year-end. That was a forecast made at the time of the October conference, not evidence in the cited material that an announcement subsequently occurred.
Federal hubs and Paducah
The company’s presentation grouped federal hub and Paducah Energy Hub opportunities at more than 20 GW. In the transcript, Ketchum described projects involving Japan and Korea, including Project Star and Paducah, and said the projects would be owned by the federal government and partner countries. He said NextEra expected fees for development, operating and milestone services and would not contribute project capital. The presentation likewise characterizes the hubs as requiring no capital commitment from NextEra and as providing a fee-based EPS profile.

That is management’s description of the intended commercial structure, not an independent assessment of project economics, financing or delivery risk. The opportunity total should not be read as operating generation capacity or revenue in hand. The discussion and project-specific details are reproduced in Investing.com’s conference transcript.
Renewables, storage and other routes to growth
NextEra presented renewables and storage development alongside regulated transmission, gas generation, nuclear and customer-facing businesses. Its claim that about two-thirds of its expected 2026–2029 renewables and storage development was in backlog or at commercial operation indicates progress against its plan, but does not make the entire expected portfolio completed or certain. The company’s strategy also includes recontracting existing power-purchase agreements and pursuing technology and artificial-intelligence initiatives; the presentation does not make those categories equivalent in maturity or near-term earnings contribution.

What the financial outlook says
NextEra on a stand-alone basis
NextEra’s October deck set an expectation of 8% or greater compound annual growth in adjusted EPS through 2032, measured from 2025 adjusted EPS. This is a forward-looking company target, not a reported historical growth rate or a guarantee. Adjusted EPS is non-GAAP; comparisons with GAAP earnings should use the company’s reconciliation rather than treating the measures as interchangeable.
NextEra plus Dominion, if the proposal closes
For the proposed combined company, NextEra’s deck showed a long-term adjusted EPS CAGR target of at least 9% for 2025–2032, approximately 11% rate-base growth, and a regulated-business mix above 80%. Those figures describe an illustrative company outlook under stated assumptions, not the current results of an already merged company. The model assumes a transaction closing in the second half of 2027 and excludes merger-related expenses from adjusted EPS.

Both outlooks are forward-looking expectations in the company’s October presentation. The figures are not directly interchangeable with GAAP results, and the combined-company case should not be attributed to NextEra alone as though it were its present operating profile.

NextEra’s presentation warns that actual results could differ materially from forward-looking statements and refers readers to its appendix and SEC filings for risk factors. Execution depends on, among other things, regulatory approvals and completion and integration of the proposed Dominion transaction; project permitting, construction schedules, equipment and supply chains; whether anticipated demand materializes; financing conditions; and policy or regulatory changes. The company’s stated targets do not establish that any of these conditions will be met.

In Q&A, Ketchum said nuclear and small modular reactor projects would need risk sharing across the value chain and that the company would not take last-dollar risk for shareholders. This is management’s stated condition for considering such projects, not an announcement that a particular project has been approved or will proceed.
