A color or brightness setting alone does not prove that a room has reached a temperature, that the air is clean, or that cooling works better. Check the manual for your exact model before interpreting or changing the light.
What does the mood light on an air conditioner mean?
There is no universal AC mood-light standard. The same color can mean different things on different units, and a single unit may use its lighting differently depending on its operating mode. Manufacturers also distinguish mood lighting from display or status indicators.

Color only has meaning in the specific mode and model that defines it. A light might be decorative, linked to a set temperature, or indicate a sensor or operating category. Do not treat a color as a universal diagnostic code.

Decorative mood lighting
LG’s owner manual describes a blue mood light that appears when the lighting button is pressed, regardless of the cleanliness level. The manual separately describes colored cleanliness indications. In that product’s general mode, it lists blue, red, and violet for clean, contaminated, and intermediate air categories, respectively. Those mappings apply to that manual’s product, not to ACs generally. The word “serene” in the manual is the manufacturer’s description, not evidence of a mental-health effect. LG owner manual
Set-temperature-linked ambience
A Hitachi split-AC guide describes an ambience light on selected models that changes with the set-temperature band during Auto, Cool, and Dry operation:

Can the light prove that the room is cool or clean?
No. A set-temperature-linked light can show a band associated with the selected setting; it does not establish that the room has reached that temperature. A cleanliness indicator, where a model has one, reports the product’s manufacturer-defined category. It is not a universal certification that the room is clean or that an air-quality problem has been resolved.
Likewise, the manufacturer material cited here describes lighting functions, not evidence that decorative mood lighting improves health, changes cooling performance, increases energy efficiency, or treats an air-quality problem. An aesthetic feature should not be mistaken for a performance claim.
Does mood lighting make the air conditioner work better?
No performance benefit is established by the lighting descriptions in the cited manufacturer materials. Lighting controls are distinct from temperature and operating-mode controls. How do I change or turn off the AC light?
Use the instructions for the exact model and market variant. Look in its manual for “mood light,” “ambience light,” “display light,” “LED,” or “indicator.” Confirm what the control actually changes: decorative color, brightness, display visibility, or an indicator mode.
- Find the exact model code. Use the unit’s label or documentation, then open the manual for that model and region.
- Search the manual for lighting terms. Note whether the control works when the AC is off, while it is running, or in a particular operating mode.
- Use only the documented control. If the manual offers brightness levels or an off setting, follow its button sequence rather than borrowing instructions for another brand or model.
- Check what remains visible when the light is off. A dark display may make normal operating status harder to see. Consult the manual for which indicators, if any, remain active during a fault.
For the documented LG Korea Whisen Tower family, mood lighting is configured while the AC is off, while operating lighting is configured with it on; the light turns off with the product. LG warns that some variants lack the feature and that instructions or images may differ from the purchased unit. Those steps are not a general procedure for other models. What if the light is blinking or unexpected?
Do not diagnose a fault from color alone. Check the exact model’s manual for the indicator or blink pattern, then use the manufacturer’s support page if the meaning is unclear. How to compare mood lighting between AC models
“Mood lighting” is not a consistent feature specification. When comparing actual units, check these points in each model’s own regional manual:
