What Adventure Mode changes
Minecraft Help describes Adventure Mode as a way for creators to craft a unique experience for guests. It is useful for maps with intended routes, puzzles, or builds that should stay intact while visitors play. Adventure Mode changes how players can alter a world; it is not itself a separate game or a specific downloadable map. Minecraft Help’s overview of game modes explains the restriction at a high level.

The central rule is that players generally cannot break or place blocks unless they hold special items that allow it. This helps protect the map’s layout, but it does not mean every other game mechanic is identical to another mode.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

| Mode | Main emphasis | How it affects the world |
|---|---|---|
| Adventure | Playing a creator-designed experience | Restricts block breaking and placing unless permitted by special items. |
| Creative | Building with unlimited resources | Emphasizes freedom to build. |
| Survival | Exploration, gathering, crafting, combat, health, and hunger | Centers on collecting resources and managing survival mechanics. |
Minecraft’s official overview discusses Creative and Survival separately; it does not establish that Adventure matches Survival in every other mechanic. For a broader overview of Minecraft and its modes, see Minecraft’s introduction to the game.

How to switch to Adventure Mode
In Bedrock Edition, Microsoft Learn documents the command /gamemode adventure. It also accepts a and 2 as values. You can target a player with the command when appropriate for the world or server; access depends on permissions and settings. See Microsoft Learn’s Bedrock command documentation for the documented syntax.
- In a Bedrock single-player world, enable “Allow Cheats” in the world settings if needed.
- Open chat or the command interface and enter
/gamemode adventureto change your own mode. Use an eligible player target if changing someone else’s mode. - In Java single-player, commands require “Allow Commands” to be enabled for the world. On multiplayer servers, you need sufficient permissions.
Enabling cheats in a Bedrock world permanently disables achievement unlocking in that world, even if you later turn cheats off. Minecraft’s guide to using commands covers command access and this caveat.

Can you break or place blocks?
Usually, no: Adventure Mode is intended to prevent unrestricted block breaking and placing. A creator can provide special items that authorize certain actions, so the practical answer depends on the map and the items it supplies.

Item rules differ by edition. A secondary reference describes Java’s CanDestroy and CanPlaceOn tags and Bedrock’s corresponding can_destroy and can_place_on tags. Exact syntax can depend on edition and version, so check current documentation for your version before using item commands; the high-level rule is documented by Minecraft Help, while the tag details are summarized by The Minecraft Wiki.

Does Adventure Mode require anything extra?
No separate accessory or physical product is required. Adventure Mode is a game mode that can be selected through supported settings or commands, subject to the world’s command permissions.
