The team calls the project World of Warcraft: Forever, and says it judges ideas against four pillars: protecting social experiences, staying approachable and familiar, keeping the world central, and putting the journey before the destination. That is a design philosophy, not a complete feature roadmap or confirmation that “Classic Plus” is the game’s formal title.
What does “WoW Classic Plus” mean?
In current coverage, “Classic Plus” describes an effort to build on vanilla World of Warcraft while preserving what makes its original world and play experience feel distinctive. The project is referred to as World of Warcraft: Forever. The available reporting does not establish “Classic Plus” as its formal product name, so it is more accurate to use the phrase for the approach than as a confirmed title.

Blizzard’s stated aim is to add to the original game without losing its underlying character. In an interview reported by TechRadar Gaming on October 8, 2026, the team described its philosophy as building on the vanilla world in a way that stays true to the original’s core design, pacing, and tone. It also said the four pillars developed through years of playing different versions of Classic and have a firm basis in vanilla WoW.

They help explain the reasoning behind at least one reported decision—leaving out Summoning Stones—but the sources do not show a universal rule or a complete set of decisions.

What are WoW: Forever’s four design pillars?
The four names are Nurture and Protect Social Experiences, Approachable and Familiar, World as the Main Character, and Journey before destination. They are best read as guiding priorities, not as a numerical scorecard. Blizzard has named them, but has not published a detailed checklist, thresholds, or a formal process for weighing one pillar against another.
1. Nurture and Protect Social Experiences
This pillar puts player interaction among the things a change should preserve. Blizzard’s Summoning Stones example gives the clearest explanation of the team’s reasoning: if a feature lets players reach a destination quickly without travelling together, the team believes it can reduce the need for social interaction along the way.
That is Blizzard’s design rationale, not an independently demonstrated measurement of how players behave. It also does not mean the game will reject every convenience feature. The reporting establishes that the team sees social consequences as relevant when assessing a proposal; it does not specify how it will judge every future feature.
2. Approachable and Familiar
This pillar signals that additions should be legible to players who know vanilla WoW. Familiarity is a constraint on how new ideas fit into the experience, rather than proof that the game will contain no new content. However, the team has not supplied a detailed definition of “approachable,” a checklist for measuring it, or specific examples of features that pass or fail this pillar.

It would therefore be premature to infer particular rules about difficulty, interface design, class changes, or how much novelty is acceptable. The grounded takeaway is narrower: Blizzard says it wants additions to remain recognizably connected to the familiar vanilla experience.
3. World as the Main Character
This pillar treats Azeroth itself as central to play, rather than merely a backdrop between rewards. The Summoning Stones example makes the idea tangible: Blizzard argues that quick access to destinations can make the world feel smaller. In this framing, how a player gets somewhere can affect the perceived importance of the places and distances in between.
The name alone does not establish specific rules about travel, exploration, map design, or the availability of other forms of transport. The reported teleport decision is one example of the team applying the principle, not evidence that every fast-travel option will be removed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems4. Journey before destination
This pillar emphasizes the experience of progressing through the world, not only arrival at an endpoint. It gives a useful lens for understanding why a shortcut might be judged by more than the time it saves: a design decision can change the value of the route, the pacing of progression, and the role of the world along the way.
Blizzard has not, in the cited coverage, provided a separate feature example or a detailed definition for this pillar. It should not be treated as confirmation of any particular leveling system, travel restriction, or endgame design. Its meaning is a stated priority, not a disclosed mechanic.
How the pillars frame design trade-offs
The pillars offer a way to understand the questions Blizzard says it considers, but they do not establish a formal scoring system. These contrasts are interpretive reading aids drawn from the named priorities and the Summoning Stones example—not a published Blizzard rubric.
| Design tension | Question the pillars raise | What the available example establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Social interaction vs. convenience | Does making an action easier reduce opportunities or reasons for players to interact? | Blizzard says quick teleports could weaken social play; it has not quantified that effect. |
| World traversal vs. fast access | Does reaching a destination more quickly make the world feel less substantial? | The team’s stated objection to Summoning Stones is that quick access can shrink the perceived world. |
| Familiarity vs. novelty | Does an addition still feel approachable to someone familiar with vanilla WoW? | The pillar is named, but the team has not published a detailed test or example. |
| Journey vs. destination | Does a change preserve the value of travelling and progressing, as well as reaching an endpoint? | The pillar is named; no separate mechanic is specified in the reporting. |
The practical value of this framework is that it shifts the question from “Is this feature old or new?” to “What does this feature change about the experience?” A new idea could be considered in terms of social play, familiarity, the world’s importance, and the journey. But because Blizzard has not published a feature-by-feature roadmap or decision procedure, readers should not treat that interpretation as a prediction of what will be included.

Why won’t WoW: Forever have Summoning Stones?
TechRadar Gaming reported on October 9, 2026, that WoW: Forever will not include Summoning Stones, also called Meeting Stones in the report’s explanation. The team’s stated concern is that a quick teleport can change more than travel time: it can reduce the perceived scale of the world and marginalize part of the Warlock class identity.

- Contains 19 cards per pack
The WoW: Forever team put its reasoning this way: “Easy, quick access to teleports shrink the world, and marginalize part of the identity of a class like Warlock.” It said the feature therefore fails the “Nurture and Protect Social Experiences” and “World as the Main Character” pillars. The full explanation appears in TechRadar Gaming’s October 9, 2026 report.
This is a concrete example of the stated philosophy: a convenience can have consequences for the world’s scale, class identity, and opportunities for players to travel or interact. The team’s point is not simply that teleportation is convenient and therefore wrong; it is that, in this case, the convenience conflicts with specific priorities it says it wants to protect.
The decision does not prove that all quality-of-life changes will be rejected or that every travel shortcut would be judged the same way. The October 9 report also says Blizzard referred to “22 years of data” about quality-of-life or convenience changes and their effects on the game’s social fabric. The article does not identify a dataset, publish measurements, or quantify player outcomes, so that phrase is context for Blizzard’s stated view—not a verifiable statistic showing a measured effect.

What visual style is Blizzard aiming for?
The reported visual goal is a middle ground: not assets deliberately made to look as if they were created in 2004, and not assets at the fidelity level of modern WoW. Blizzard said it wants a range of fidelity that could have existed in Vanilla, The Burning Crusade, or Wrath of the Lich King, according to the October 8, 2026 TechRadar Gaming interview coverage.
That description is about the intended visual range, not a promise to reuse original assets or a specification for every environment, character, or interface element. It also does not mean the result will be identical to any one earlier expansion. The useful distinction is that Blizzard describes visual fidelity as part of preserving the game’s broader tone, while avoiding both a forced imitation of 2004-era asset quality and the look of modern WoW.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Season of Discovery the same thing as Classic Plus?
No. Season of Discovery is relevant as an earlier example of Blizzard experimenting within WoW Classic, but the available sources do not establish that it is WoW: Forever or that its features will carry over. At BlizzCon 2023, Blizzard presented Season of Discovery as a new twist on Classic, with discoveries hidden around the world, phased level bands, new endgame activities, Rune Engraving, and class changes intended to remain true to Classic.
Blizzard’s launch announcement described hidden runes that unlocked abilities unavailable in WoW Classic, rune builds players could change freely, and phased level caps. At launch, the level cap was 25, and the reworked Blackfathom Deeps was a 10-player endgame raid for that level band. The official sources describe Season of Discovery’s own format and access; they do not identify those details as WoW: Forever plans.

| Season of Discovery detail | What Blizzard announced | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Exploration and discoveries | Discoveries hidden throughout the world were part of the season’s announced concept. | Evidence of experimentation in Classic, not confirmation of a WoW: Forever feature. |
| Rune Engraving | Runes unlocked abilities unavailable in WoW Classic, and rune builds could be changed freely. | A Season of Discovery system; no cited source says it will transfer. |
| Phased progression | The launch level cap was 25, with level-banded phases. | A historical detail of that season’s rollout, not a WoW: Forever level-cap announcement. |
| Blackfathom Deeps | The launch announcement described a reworked 10-player raid as level-25 endgame content. | An example of Season of Discovery content, not a Forever roadmap item. |
Blizzard’s official launch post said Season of Discovery access was included for players with an active World of Warcraft subscription, with no additional purchase required. That statement applies to Season of Discovery as described at launch; it does not establish WoW: Forever’s current or future access terms. The original announcement at BlizzCon 2023 described the season as an exploration- and experimentation-focused Classic adventure, and Activision Blizzard’s November 3, 2023 press release gave its announced original launch date as November 30, 2023.
For the season’s original outline, see Blizzard’s BlizzCon 2023 Classic: What’s Next panel recap. Its launch announcement documents the runes, level-25 cap, Blackfathom Deeps raid, and subscription access described above.
What is known—and what is not—about WoW: Forever?
The reporting supports a clear account of Blizzard’s stated design intent and one specific feature decision. It does not support a complete forecast of the game. Keeping those two categories separate helps avoid turning a set of principles into an imagined roadmap.
- Established in current coverage: WoW: Forever is described as building on the vanilla world while aiming to preserve its core design, pacing, and tone.
- Established in current coverage: Blizzard names four pillars to guide its thinking about changes.
- Established in current coverage: Summoning Stones are reported as excluded, with the team citing world scale, social experience, and Warlock identity.
- Not established: A full feature list, release schedule, complete set of exclusions, or universal test for deciding whether a convenience feature fits.
- Not established: That “Classic Plus” is the formal product title, or that Season of Discovery’s mechanics will appear in WoW: Forever.
In short, “Classic Plus” is a useful label for the reported ambition, while World of Warcraft: Forever is the name used for the project in that coverage. The four pillars show the values Blizzard says it intends to preserve; they do not yet answer every question about how the finished game will work.
