Upscale’s Token Fabric is a launch-stage networking stack that combines scale-up networking within racks with scale-out networking between racks, plus software intended to manage both through a shared control plane. It is more than a dashboard: the reported components include Upscale’s SkyFabriX switch silicon, NVIDIA Spectrum-X-based systems, the SkyOS network operating system and SkyCMD orchestration software. Early-access and joint-validation programs are reported underway, but general availability is planned for 2027; the launch coverage does not establish independent performance gains or completed customer deployments.
Why Upscale is combining two AI network layers
AI infrastructure commonly separates scale-up networking, which connects accelerators within a rack or a larger tightly coupled domain, from scale-out networking, which connects systems across racks. Upscale’s argument is that a single AI job can use both layers, while operators may manage them as separate networks with separate tools.

CEO Barun Kar told Network World, “If you look at compute, compute is ramping up on a rapid scale, and networking has fallen way behind.” Token Fabric is Upscale’s proposed response: bring the two network layers and their operations into one architecture. That is the company’s product thesis, not evidence that combining them improves performance in a particular deployment.

| Component | Role in the reported architecture |
|---|---|
| SkyFabriX | Upscale scale-up switch silicon. Network World reports a switch capacity of 115.2 Tbps and a roadmap to multiple petabits per second; these are reported product specifications and plans, not independent benchmark results. |
| Scale-up trays | Custom and standard rack-form-factor switch trays intended to pool GPUs and other accelerators into larger scale-up domains. |
| Scale-out systems | Systems based on NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ethernet. Network World reports 400G, 800G and 1.6T speeds. |
| SkyOS | A network operating system for both fabrics, described as based on SONiC. |
| SkyCMD | An orchestration and observability layer intended to provide a common control plane across the fabrics. |
The system is described as using ESUN and standard Ethernet/IP for scale-up traffic, and standard Ethernet with RoCE for scale-out. Network World also reports Upscale contributions to SONiC, SAI extensions for ESUN, the Ultra Ethernet Consortium and UALink, and says SkyFabriX is designed for evolving protocols such as UALink. Protocol support and standards participation do not, by themselves, demonstrate that every combination of accelerator, switch and software has been validated.

What a unified control plane is meant to change
SkyOS and SkyCMD are intended to give operators a shared way to run and observe scale-up and scale-out networks rather than treating each as an independent operational domain. That could simplify oversight when a workload crosses both layers, but the available launch coverage describes the intended management model rather than showing measured reductions in operating effort or a completed interoperability test.

Kar also described an agent-based vision in which “An agent is always looking at your network, trying to figure out whether your cables will fail or your optics will fail or if there’s congestion, and the agents are looking for ways around it.” This is the CEO’s description of the platform’s intended behavior; it is not independently verified evidence that Token Fabric currently detects or resolves those issues in production.

- Full stack: For neoclouds and enterprises that do not have hyperscaler-scale network teams, with the hardware and software stack operated as an integrated offering.
- Integrated systems: For XPU vendors seeking validated hardware without building their own network stack.
- Silicon or custom systems with an SDK: For hyperscalers that want custom hardware while continuing to run their own network operating system.
Reuters reported that Upscale is targeting neoclouds and large cloud providers seeking to use chips from multiple suppliers. Multi-vendor flexibility is therefore a stated goal; the launch reporting does not establish broad validation across rival accelerator suppliers. Reuters also reported that the company expected Token Fabric revenue in 2027 to reach tens of millions of dollars, potentially the low hundreds of millions. That is CEO Barun Kar’s forecast, not realized revenue. The same report said a $190 million financing extension in June 2026 brought reported total funding to $500 million and a reported valuation of $2 billion: Reuters via Investing.com’s launch report.
Availability: planned rollout, not a completed general release
As of the October 8, 2026 coverage, Network World said early-access and joint-validation programs were running, with general availability planned for early 2027. Reuters reported that an initial piece was planned for Q4 2026 and that a staged full rollout was expected through 2027. These are reported plans and timelines, not confirmation that the products have shipped or reached general availability.

What buyers should verify before evaluating it
The launch descriptions explain the architecture, but do not supply the evidence needed to compare Token Fabric with other networking approaches on actual workloads. A procurement evaluation should establish the specific configuration and test results rather than treating roadmap claims or standards participation as proof of deployment readiness.
- End-to-end coverage: Which scale-up and scale-out components are included in the offered configuration, and how does traffic move between them?
- Validated accelerator combinations: Which GPUs or other accelerators from which suppliers have been tested together, and under what software and firmware versions?
- Protocol behavior: Which ESUN, Ethernet/IP, RoCE and UALink capabilities are supported in the configuration being offered, rather than only described as goals or contributions?
- Operations: What functions SkyOS and SkyCMD expose today, including observability, orchestration and any agent-based actions, and what requires operator approval?
- Deployment choices: Which hardware, software and SDK options are available for the buyer’s operating model?
- Evidence and schedule: Request independent or reproducible performance results, customer references where available, and confirmation of the actual delivery and support status.
Network World’s cited launch coverage and Reuters’ report do not provide independent benchmarks, comparative tests or documented completed customer deployments. Kar was asked whether tokens are the right unit for optimizing AI network performance and replied, “I would say that’s the right thing.” That expresses the CEO’s view; it does not establish tokens as a standardized or independently validated network-performance metric.
