Toaplan Arcade Garage is M2’s line of Toaplan game collections released under its ShotTriggers label. Each release focuses on a particular group of arcade games and may include regional variants, optional console ports, or modern practice tools. The two collections explained here are Kyukyoku TigerHeli and Flying Fire Shark; Zero Fire is another documented release, so these titles should not be treated as the complete catalog.

Which games are in each collection?

The collection name does not mean every listed game or version is included in every purchase. M2 separates some content into add-on categories, and its pages and storefront listings can vary by platform and region. Check the listing for the edition you intend to buy.

Flying Fire Shark

The core arcade lineup spans games known by different regional names: Japanese Hishozame and Same! Same! Same!; international Flying Shark and Fire Shark; North American Sky Shark; and a two-player arcade version of Same! Same! Same!. M2 also lists arcade puzzle game Teki-Paki in the base collection.

M2 lists the NES version of Sky Shark, Sega Mega Drive Same! Same! Same!, Genesis Fire Shark, and several regional and FDS versions of Wardner separately under “Console versions + Wardner DLC.” Treat those as add-on content, not as guaranteed parts of the base game. Nintendo’s store page describes the Switch release as pairing Flying Shark (1987) and Fire Shark (1989); it dates that release to August 29, 2026, and lists Switch and Switch 2 compatibility. Store details may change.

  • Includes both Tiger-Heli (1985) and Twin Cobra (1987)!
  • Practice your skills in the Arcade Challenge modes!
  • Try the Super Easy mode for a friendlier experience!

Kyukyoku TigerHeli

This collection centers on Kyukyoku Tiger (also known as Twin Cobra) and Tiger-Heli. M2 lists console versions and Get Star/Guardian as DLC rather than core arcade content.

M2 lists a US release date of May 16, 2024, and dates for Europe and the rest of North America of February 26, 2026. These are territory-specific dates, not a single worldwide launch date. M2 lists Switch and PS4 versions; check the local platform store for current availability and language details.

Rank #2
Toaplan Arcade Garage: Flying Fire Shark NS
  • Includes Flying Shark (1987), Fire Shark (1989), and Wardner (1987)!
  • Super Easy or Arcade Challenge? New bonus modes for every skill level!
  • Enjoy the free DLC game Teki-Paki!

Other releases and the Teki-Paki bonus

M2’s official pages also document Zero Fire as a Toaplan Arcade Garage release. M2 describes Teki-Paki as a 1991 arcade puzzle game and says it is distributed as a bonus with purchases of Toaplan Arcade Garage games rather than sold separately. That is the publisher’s stated policy and may change; verify the current product listing.

What features make the games easier to play today?

These collections pair arcade-focused modes with selected modern aids. The specific options differ by title, so do not assume that every feature appears in every Garage release.

Arcade Mode and Super Easy

Arcade Mode aims to present the original game challenge. Super Easy offers a lower-friction alternative for players who want to learn the stages or enjoy the game without the same level of difficulty. These are separate play options, not evidence that the original arcade mode has been altered.

M2 Gadgets

M2 Gadgets can surface game information during play, including offscreen threats or hidden features. They are intended to make useful details visible without requiring players to already know every mechanic.

Arcade Challenge practice

For Flying Fire Shark, M2 documents Arcade Challenge practice that lets players select individual stages or bosses, choose difficulty and ship loadouts, and rewind after a hit. Rewind is described as part of this training mode; it should not be confused with a rewind feature in the standard arcade game.

Display, records, and replays

M2 documents online leaderboards, replay downloads, screen sizing, wallpapers, and vertical screen rotation for Flying Fire Shark. These options can matter if you want to compare scores, revisit a run, or use a vertically oriented display. Check the product page for the specific title and platform before counting on any one feature.

How should you compare editions and versions?

When two listings have similar names, compare their contents and platform details rather than relying on a volume number or package title alone.

  1. Identify the core games. Kyukyoku TigerHeli focuses on the Tiger-Heli games, while Flying Fire Shark focuses on the Flying Shark and Fire Shark family. Zero Fire is a separate documented release.
  2. Check the region and game variant. Names such as Sky Shark, Flying Shark, and Hishozame can refer to regional versions. M2 notes that versions may differ. For example, its feature page identifies a Japanese two-player Fire Shark variant with difficulty somewhat toned down.
  3. Separate base content from DLC. Look for console ports, Wardner, and Get Star/Guardian in the add-on listing for the relevant collection. Do not infer their inclusion from the main title.
  4. Match the platform and territory. M2 lists Switch and PS4 versions for the Tiger-Heli collection, while Nintendo’s page lists Switch and Switch 2 compatibility information for Flying Fire Shark. Regional dates and current store availability can differ.
  5. Compare the play aids you care about. Confirm whether the specific edition includes Gadgets, Super Easy, Arcade Challenge, rewind, online records and replays, screen sizing, or vertical display.

M2’s preservation caveat is worth keeping in mind when comparing versions: “We tried to keep the included games as close to their original form as possible, but please note that differences may be present in their behavior, expressions, logos or copyright notices etc.” In other words, these are preservation-minded releases, but M2 does not promise that every detail is identical to the original arcade or home versions.

Which collection is the better fit?

  • Choose Kyukyoku TigerHeli if you want the Tiger-Heli and Kyukyoku Tiger/Twin Cobra lineage, and check whether its console ports or Get Star/Guardian DLC are part of the edition you are considering.
  • Choose Flying Fire Shark if you want the Flying Shark/Fire Shark games and their regional arcade variants; check the separate console and Wardner content before buying.
  • If you are new to these shooters, look for Super Easy and the title-specific practice options. If you want a closer arcade-style challenge, start with Arcade Mode and use training features separately.

For either collection, the most reliable comparison is the current listing for your region and platform: it should clarify which game versions are included, whether DLC is separate, and which features are supported.
