Which Minecraft trees can grow tallest?
The Minecraft Wiki lists mega jungle trees, mega spruce trees and mega pines as reaching up to 31 blocks tall. These are large forms of ordinary trees, not separate structures such as Nether fungi. The wiki’s tree overview also gives a broader maximum of 30 blocks elsewhere in the same article, so its wording is not entirely consistent. For the specific tallest forms, the article’s explicit figure is 31 blocks.

How to try growing a giant spruce or jungle tree
- Choose a suitable location. Find an open area where the eventual tree can grow without running into a ceiling or nearby blocks.
- Place four matching saplings. Arrange four spruce saplings or four jungle saplings in a 2×2 square. This is the configuration used for the large tree forms; see the tree overview and tree-farming tutorial.
- Provide adequate light. Saplings need suitable light to grow. If growth does not occur, check the light and available space before trying again.
- Wait, or use bone meal. Bone meal can prompt a growth attempt, but it cannot make a tree grow when its light or space requirements are not met.
Why space and light affect the result
Tree growth depends on the selected tree form having enough room. A ceiling can restrict how tall a tree can become, and insufficient clearance can prevent the growth attempt altogether. The Minecraft Wiki’s tree overview describes light and space as growth requirements; the tree-farming tutorial provides additional guidance for large spruce and jungle forms.

Because the required clearance depends on the form being grown, a cramped test spot may fail even when the saplings are correctly arranged. Choosing an open site is the practical way to give the tree room to generate.
Are Nether huge fungi taller than trees?
A huge fungus is a tree-like Nether structure, not an ordinary tree. A separate tutorial reports naturally generated huge fungi up to 27 blocks overall. That is a different category and a lower-confidence comparison than the 31-block tree figure, so it should not be treated as a like-for-like tree maximum.
