NVIDIA says the Super kit has no physical hardware or package differences from the earlier kit; its higher published figures come from software optimization and higher operating clocks. Existing developer-kit owners can enable the new mode with a JetPack upgrade, while production-module support has separate software, power, and thermal requirements.
What “Super” means
“Super” is NVIDIA’s name for the faster configuration of the Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit. The module and package are physically the same as those in the original developer kit; software enables a higher power mode that raises GPU, memory, and CPU clocks. NVIDIA’s Jetson FAQ makes the hardware distinction explicit.

That distinction matters when choosing or upgrading a kit: the name does not identify a different board or a new chip. It identifies the performance configuration available through software.

How the published specifications compare
NVIDIA’s December 17, 2024 launch comparison lists these specifications for the original and Super configurations. They are NVIDIA’s configuration figures, not guaranteed application-level throughput or independent benchmark results.
#1 Best Overall
- 【Core Parameters】★AI Perf: 34/67 TOPS ★GPU:1024-core NVIDIA Ampere architecture GPU with 32 Tensor Cores ★CPU:6-core Arm Corte-A78AE v8.2 64-bit CPU 1.5MB L2 + 4MB L3 ★Memory:8GB 128-bit LPDDR5 68 GB/s ★Storage: external NVMe via M.2 Key M
- 【Empowered by Large Al Model, Enhanced Human-Computer Interaction】Jetson Orin Super leverages three AI models and incorporates an AI voice interaction module. This multimodal visual system matches the scene being described, enabling environmental awareness and AI visual gameplay. Combined with a large-scale voice module and camera, it enables speech-to-text, semantic analysis, natural conversation, and real-time video analysis, enabling advanced embodied AI applications.
- 【AI Upgrade】Jetson Orin Nano series modules are compact in size but can deliver up to 34-67 TOPS of AI performance, with power consumption ranging from 7 watts to 25 watts. Compared to the Jetson Nano B01, it offers up to 80 times the performance and sets a new standard for entry-level edge AI.
- 【Highly compatible carrier board】Yahboom's carrier board is fully compatible with orin nano module. Compared to carrier boards that use Jetson Nano on the market, the newly upgraded circuit supports 25W power mode, which enables larger and more complex neural networks and fully leverages the performance of the core module. The resources, size, and interfaces of the Yahboom carrier board are consistent with the official board, with the only difference addition of power switch button.
- 【Tutorial materials provided】The JETSON system based on Ubuntu 22.04 provides a complete desktop Linux environment with accelerated graphics, supporting NVIDI-ACUDA 12.6, TensorRT 10.7.0, cuDNN 9.6.0, OpenCV 4.10.0, etc. The performance on AI LLM, VLM and visual Transformer is significantly improved compared with the previous generation.
| Item | Original configuration | Super configuration |
|---|---|---|
| GPU | Ampere; 1,024 CUDA cores; 32 Tensor Cores; 635 MHz | Ampere; 1,024 CUDA cores; 32 Tensor Cores; 1,020 MHz |
| AI performance | 40 sparse INT8 TOPS; 20 dense INT8 TOPS; 10 FP16 TFLOPs | 67 sparse INT8 TOPS; 33 dense INT8 TOPS; 17 FP16 TFLOPs |
| CPU | Six-core Arm Cortex-A78AE; 1.5 GHz | Six-core Arm Cortex-A78AE; 1.7 GHz |
| Memory | 8 GB 128-bit LPDDR5; 68 GB/s | 8 GB 128-bit LPDDR5; 102 GB/s |
| Listed module power modes | 7 W and 15 W | 7 W, 15 W, and 25 W |
The GPU core counts and memory capacity are unchanged in the comparison; higher clocks and bandwidth accompany the Super configuration. NVIDIA described generative-AI performance as up to 1.7x higher, a claim about its comparison rather than a universal speedup for every model or workload. See NVIDIA’s December 17, 2024 launch comparison.
Can an existing Jetson Orin Nano become Super?
Owners of earlier Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kits can use the new power mode by upgrading to the JetPack version specified for Super Mode. The hardware itself does not need to be replaced. Follow NVIDIA’s current software instructions for the applicable kit and release rather than assuming every installed image enables the mode automatically.

How production modules differ from developer kits
The developer-kit upgrade path is not a blanket compatibility guarantee for every Jetson product. NVIDIA documents Super Mode for supported Orin Nano and Orin NX production modules through JetPack 6.2 reference power modes and specific flashing configurations. Verify the exact module variant, JetPack/Jetson Linux release, and required flashing setup in the JetPack SDK 6.2 documentation before deployment.
Production designs also need to accommodate their power and thermal budgets. NVIDIA describes MAXN SUPER as uncapped; if module power exceeds the thermal design budget, the module lowers its frequency, which reduces performance. A custom power mode can be tuned to balance workload performance, power, and thermal stability. NVIDIA notes that the higher power budget can require changes to the carrier board or thermal design; see its Jetson FAQ.

Is the developer kit meant for a finished product?
The Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit is for development, prototyping, and testing edge-AI applications. NVIDIA describes developer kits as a Jetson module attached to a reference carrier board with standard interfaces, and says developer kits are not intended for production use. For a deployable product, evaluate production modules and design resources through NVIDIA’s Jetson developer-kit and hardware resources rather than treating the reference kit as a production-ready system.
