What the Hotel Lobby AI trend looks like
The recognizable reference is Quavo and Takeoff performing “HOTEL LOBBY (Unc & Phew)” in A COLORS SHOW’s orange studio setting. Two performers share the frame beneath a hanging microphone. AI remixes borrow that visual setup and performance feel, replacing the original subjects with people or characters chosen by the creator. The generated result is a remix, not footage of those subjects taking part in the original performance.

Creator guides describe two broad approaches. They are workflows reported for this kind of video, not a universal technical recipe: services differ in what they accept and how they generate the result.

At a high level, the selected subjects provide the identities, the COLORS performance supplies the recognizable visual reference, and the generator creates a new moving scene. Depending on the service, the faces, movement, sound, and background may differ from the source. Do not assume a particular model architecture or identical output across tools.

Where the trend came from—and what the dates establish
The original COLORS performance was published on June 17, 2022. The AI remix trend is later: Know Your Meme reports a Suits-character edit on September 16, 2026 and wider spread across TikTok and X later that month. Its entry is marked as still being researched and evaluated, so these are reported milestones—not definitive proof of the first remix or its creator.
Know Your Meme also reported that the COLORS performance had more than 121 million views in four years on a page updated September 28, 2026. That is a platform-counter figure reported by the site, not an independently audited statistic or a measure of how many people made remixes. AI labels, likeness, and consent
TikTok’s rules matter if you post there, but they are platform rules rather than a general ruling on copyright or every remix. TikTok defines AI-generated content to include images, video, or audio created or modified by AI. Its examples include significant edits that depict someone doing or saying something they did not, or substantially alter their appearance. The platform says realistic AI-generated content must be labeled. Its guidance also prohibits some uses of likeness, including private figures and public figures used for political or commercial purposes; adding a label does not make prohibited content permissible.

There is also a human question beyond labeling: the reference is a real performance, and some remixes reproduce Takeoff’s likeness and movements. Takeoff died in November 2022, a fact noted in Tom’s Guide’s coverage. Using a real person’s likeness—especially after their death—raises consent and rights concerns. The sources reviewed do not settle whether a particular clip is authorized or lawful; that depends on the clip, permissions, and applicable rules. Do not imply that a person consented simply because a generator can reproduce their appearance.
