The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) is a not-for-profit cybersecurity organization that develops cloud-security guidance and frameworks, supports assurance programs, and provides education. It is not a cloud provider or a regulator. Its current work also includes cybersecurity topics such as artificial intelligence and Zero Trust.
What does CSA stand for in cloud security?
CSA stands for Cloud Security Alliance. The organization brings together practitioners, technical experts, associations, governments, chapters, and corporate members to advance cybersecurity through volunteer-driven research, standards, practical resources, and education. Its current About page describes its scope as including cloud, AI, and Zero Trust.

CSA described its cloud-focused mission in a June 4, 2024 press release as promoting best practices for cloud security assurance and educating people about using cloud computing to secure other forms of computing. That statement reflects its cloud-security roots; its current stated scope is broader.

What does the Cloud Security Alliance do?
CSA’s work includes resources for understanding cloud risks, putting security controls into practice, and evaluating assurance. Its prominent resources serve different purposes:
#1 Best Overall
- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
| Resource | Purpose | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Security Guidance | Broad best-practice guidance for securing cloud environments. | Learn about cloud architecture, security responsibilities, and relevant control areas. |
| Cloud Controls Matrix (CCM) | A cloud-focused security controls framework. | Organize or assess controls for cloud services and environments. |
| STAR | CSA’s Security, Trust, Assurance, and Risk assurance program. | Support visibility into cloud-provider security assurance. |
| Training and CCSK | Education and a cloud-security knowledge credential. | Build knowledge through courses or pursue a CCSK certification exam. |
These resources are not interchangeable: guidance explains practices, a controls framework helps structure security work, and an assurance program addresses how security information is communicated and assessed. CSA also provides ways to take part in research and working groups; its home page describes participation, training, and certification options.
What is CSA Security Guidance v5?
Security Guidance is CSA’s broad set of expert-developed best practices for cloud environments. CSA’s guidance page emphasizes aligning architecture and controls with cloud-native models and platform capabilities.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
The official Security Guidance v5 artifact page lists the version as released July 15, 2024, and updated August 26, 2025. It describes 12 domains, covering topics such as cloud concepts and architecture, governance and risk, identity and access management, monitoring, infrastructure and networking, workload and data security, application security, incident response, resilience, and related technologies.

CSA says Security Guidance v5 is more comprehensive than the CCSK v5 Study Guide, but it is not required to pass the CCSK v5 exam. The guidance is a resource for deeper study and practical reference, not an exam prerequisite.

- Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Wi-Fi - Next-gen Wi-Fi 6 AX3000 whole home mesh system to eliminate weak Wi-Fi for good(2×2/HE160 2402 Mbps plus 2×2 574 Mbps)
- Whole Home WiFi Coverage - Covers up to 6500 square feet with seamless high-performance Wi-Fi 6 and eliminate dead zones and buffering. Better than traditional WiFi booster and Range Extenders
- Connect More Devices - Deco X55(3-pack) is strong enough to connect up to 150 devices with strong and reliable Wi-Fi
- Our Cybersecurity Commitment - TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement
- More Gigabit Ports - Each Deco X55 has 3 Gigabit Ethernet ports(6 in total for a 2-pack) and supports Wired Ethernet Backhaul for better speeds. Any of them can work as a Wi-Fi Router
Is the Cloud Security Alliance a cloud provider or regulator?
No. CSA is an industry nonprofit and resource organization. It develops guidance and frameworks and operates an assurance program, but it does not provide cloud-computing infrastructure or regulate cloud companies. Its materials can help organizations plan or assess security, but using them does not by itself establish that a cloud environment is secure or compliant.
