Do you need Star Citizen to play Squadron 42?
No. The available descriptions treat Squadron 42 and Star Citizen as separate experiences. PC Gamer explicitly reports that players do not have to own one to play the other. Is Squadron 42 available now?
No. RSI’s download FAQ, updated February 4, 2026, says Squadron 42 remains in development and is not yet available to download. The August statement did not name a specific day, and a Steam page showing the same quarter is corroboration of the listed target—not proof that the release schedule cannot change. Can you buy Squadron 42 without Star Citizen?

RSI’s pledge language is about the contents and benefits of a particular offer, not a promise that every pledge has the same contents. A pledge might be a game package, a ship, a ship upgrade, a subscription, or another item; only a listing that specifically includes Squadron 42 establishes that it contains the campaign. Likewise, an RSI account by itself is not the same thing as owning a qualifying pledge.
