Bethesda and id Software call the game’s customizable arena challenge mode Ripatorium. It lets you set up demon encounters and play them for a time limit or endlessly. The official notes do not say that Slaughter Mode is another name for Ripatorium.
What Ripatorium does
Ripatorium is a custom arena mode for building your own combat encounters. In the original version, its Encounter Manager lets you select demon types and quantities, choose a time limit or Endless mode, and adjust enemy respawns. The mode launched with three arenas—City of Ry’uul, Village of Khalim, and Harbor of Souls—and a jukebox for choosing game music, according to Bethesda’s Update 2 release notes, published August 7, 2025.

How Ripatorium has expanded
More encounter controls
Bethesda and id Software’s Update 4 release notes, published July 7, 2026, describe Ripatorium 3.0. Players can save and load personal encounter presets, enable continuous spawns, configure health and ammo pickups, set Berserk pickup behavior, and choose between zero and three BFC ammunition.
Revelations arenas and presets
The Revelations expansion adds three Ripatorium arenas—Hell’s Core, Osseus, and Classic—plus Revelations demons, a fully upgraded Revelations loadout, and six encounter presets made by id Software. This Ripatorium content unlocks after completing the Master Arenas, according to the Update 4 notes. Bethesda’s July 7, 2026 Revelations announcement describes the expansion as a campaign add-on and lists the game on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Steam, Battle.net, and PlayStation 5, as well as Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass.

Is Slaughter Mode a separate mode?
The official Update 2 and Update 4 materials reviewed use the name Ripatorium and explain its features; they do not establish “Slaughter Mode” as a separate released or announced mode, or as an alternate name for Ripatorium. They also provide no rules, release date, or platform availability for a separate mode with that name. This describes what those official materials verify, not proof that no later announcement exists.
