It can send activity to multiple targets at once, but you must run and configure the service yourself. The project warns that it is in an early stage and that features and APIs may change without notice.
What is Scrobblet?
The project describes Scrobblet as “a lightweight scrobbler for self-hosters.” A scrobbler records the music you listen to and submits that listening activity to a service or file so it can be logged there. Scrobblet acts as a bridge: Spotify is the documented music source, and you choose one or more destinations for the resulting scrobbles.

Unlike a player plugin tied to one device, Scrobblet communicates with the streaming service’s API. That means playback can happen on different devices while Scrobblet runs separately on a server or other computer. It does not provide music streams or replace Spotify.

The project lists simultaneous submission to multiple targets, now-playing support, and adaptive polling that responds to listening activity. It also lists structured JSON logging, Prometheus-compatible metrics, and a health endpoint. These are project-stated capabilities, not independently verified performance or reliability claims. See the official Scrobblet repository for the current integration list and documentation.

What does running it involve?
Scrobblet is server-side software. The repository documents deployment with Docker Compose; its example uses the degeens/scrobblet:latest image, persists /etc/scrobblet in a Docker volume, publishes port 7276, and configures Spotify as the source with CSV as the target. The example requires a Spotify client ID, client secret, and redirect URL.
Those values mean setup includes registering or configuring a Spotify application and supplying its credentials—not just starting a container. The project links separate guides for installation, Spotify configuration, and general configuration in its repository. Follow those guides for the exact current steps, since early-stage software can change.
You do not need to buy dedicated hardware if you already have a suitable always-on computer, home server, or NAS that can run Docker. A low-power mini PC is merely an option for someone without an appropriate host; it is not a Scrobblet requirement. Whichever machine you use must remain available often enough to observe listening activity through the API.
Who is Scrobblet a good fit for?
- Consider it if you use Spotify, want listening activity sent to more than one supported destination, and are comfortable maintaining a small self-hosted service.
- Look elsewhere or wait if you need a different documented music source, want a managed service rather than a server to operate, or require a mature interface or stability guarantees.
- Check the destination carefully if you expect a personal history database: Scrobblet forwards scrobbles to targets or CSV, but the documented description does not establish that it provides its own full listening-history database.
For a fair comparison with another scrobbler, check its music sources, destinations, multi-target support, whether it detects playback locally or through a service API, credential and deployment burden, maturity, and whether it stores a history itself or forwards activity elsewhere.

What should you know about maturity and licensing?
The project explicitly says it is in an early stage and that features and APIs may change without notice. Treat integration availability and configuration details as subject to change, and consult the repository before relying on a particular workflow. The project states that Scrobblet is licensed under GNU GPL v3.0.
