Sony has not announced QSSR support for Radeon desktop graphics cards, so Radeon PC compatibility, drivers and requirements are not established. AMD’s FSR and Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) are separate alternatives, not QSSR.
What QSSR is
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced QSSR on October 1, 2026, describing it as “a new performance tier of AI upscaling.” The announcement links the technology to Project Amethyst, Sony’s AI graphics collaboration with AMD, and positions QSSR as a faster, less demanding evolution of PSSR for the standard PS5. Sony’s PlayStation Blog announcement names Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first games using the QSSR library.

Daniel Craig, Principal Engineer, Graphics R&D, Sony Interactive Entertainment, described it this way: “Today, we’re excited to announce Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR): a new performance tier of AI upscaling.”
How Sony says QSSR works on PS5
Sony discloses two implementation elements: a streamlined neural-network architecture and a hand-tuned implementation intended to maximize performance on PS5. It says QSSR improves image detail and stability on that console. The announcement does not provide the network’s technical design, an internal rendering resolution, or numerical performance or image-quality results, so those qualitative benefits should be understood as Sony’s claims rather than independently quantified comparisons.

The platform qualification matters: Sony’s announcement describes QSSR as a PS5 feature and library. It does not announce Radeon desktop compatibility, a PC driver, supported Radeon models, or a PC release plan. Project Amethyst’s connection to AMD does not, on its own, establish that a Radeon card can run QSSR.
QSSR versus AMD FSR and Radeon Super Resolution
AMD’s Radeon-side options have different implementation paths. AMD describes FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) as game-integrated and Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) as a driver-level feature. AMD recommends using a game’s built-in FSR when available because game-specific optimization may produce better upscaling results than RSR. Neither AMD source identifies FSR or RSR as QSSR.

What Radeon users can use instead
Use a game’s FSR option when available
FSR must be supported and integrated by the game. If the title offers it, AMD recommends using that game-level implementation in preference to RSR.
Consider RSR for a compatible game without built-in FSR
RSR is an AMD Software feature that can upscale a game rendered below the monitor’s native resolution when the game uses a compatible fullscreen mode. AMD’s support article lists Windows 10 or Windows 11 desktop systems with a discrete Radeon RX 5000 Series card or later, as well as select AMD Advantage systems, and requires a full Adrenalin installation version 22.7.1 or later. These are RSR conditions only; they do not enable QSSR.

What is and is not known about Radeon support
As of October 4, 2026, the cited official Sony announcement does not establish QSSR compatibility with Radeon desktop cards, specific GPU models, PC drivers, or expected PC performance. It also gives no numeric QSSR benchmark that can be compared with FSR or RSR. A Radeon owner should therefore treat QSSR as a PS5-announced feature, not a setting to look for in AMD Software.
