The original Qi2 generation supports up to 15W; the later Qi2 25W branding refers to the higher-power generation. Neither label guarantees a particular phone will charge at the standard’s maximum: the phone, charger, case, adapter and supported charging profile all matter.
What Qi2 changes
Qi2 is a generation of the Qi wireless charging standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). Its defining addition is the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP): magnets help align compatible charging devices so the transmitter and receiver sit in the intended position. WPC says Qi v2.0 introduced MPP and magnetic attachment; its Qi overview describes Qi2 as the standard launched in 2023.

Magnetic alignment is a standards-based feature, not just a description of a charger that happens to contain magnets. For reassurance about safety and interoperability, look for a relevant Qi certification mark and verify the product in the WPC certified-product database.
Qi2 versus Qi2 25W

WPC’s overview brands Qi v2.2.1 as Qi2 25W, while its version history describes Qi v2.2 as adding support for up to 25W. Its specification-download page says v2.3 is the latest specification and is available to WPC members. These labels describe different aspects of the standard’s development: a newer specification version does not establish that every certified device accepts 25W.

WPC’s 2025 launch materials say Qi2 25W delivers “nearly 70% more power” than original Qi2. That is the consortium’s comparison, not an independently established real-world average. Likewise, WPC says a Qi2 25W smartphone can charge from 0 to 50% in about 30 minutes; actual results depend on the specific phone and charging conditions.
What the certification marks tell you
Magnetic or “Qi2 compatible” wording on a product page is not a substitute for checking the certified product and its exact profile. WPC’s logo guidelines distinguish:

Use the database entry for the exact product or model identifier, then check the manufacturer’s compatibility page. A phone’s Qi version label alone may not tell you the complete charging capability of the phone-and-accessory setup.

Samsung markets its Magnet Wireless Charger, model series EP-P2900, as Qi2.2 25W. Its UK product listing says Galaxy phones need a Qi2-ready case for magnetic alignment with the charger. Samsung lists fast wireless charging for Galaxy S25 series, S25 FE, Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and later models with a magnet case; it lists a super-fast mode for Galaxy S26 models and later with a magnet case. These are categories on a regional listing, not a guarantee for every variant or market, so check the local Samsung page for your precise model.

The charger’s stated maximum also has an adapter condition: Samsung specifies an official Samsung 45W adapter or a higher PPS 20V adapter. Samsung warns that speed varies with device specifications, usage and charging conditions. A generic 45W USB-C adapter—or a Qi2 25W charger paired with a phone that does not support that input—does not guarantee 25W charging.

The “25W” describes support at the standard level, not a universal phone charging rate. The receiver in the phone must support the relevant profile and power, the charger must offer it, and the rest of the setup must meet the manufacturers’ requirements. WPC certification entries illustrate why it is worth checking the exact record: the cited 2025 Galaxy S25 entry lists Qi version 2.1.0, EPP profile and 15.0W maximum load power; the cited 2026 Galaxy S26 entry lists version 2.2.1, BPP profile and 5.0W maximum load power. These are specific WPC records and model identifiers, not a basis for generalizing to every regional version or overriding Samsung’s own charging documentation.

Samsung separately claims about 31 minutes from 0 to 50% for a Galaxy S26 Ultra using its Magnet Wireless Charger on the UK listing, subject to conditions. That is a Samsung product claim, not an independent comparison with WPC’s roughly 30-minute statement. No independent controlled, cross-device charging-speed comparison is established by those figures.
What to check before buying
- Confirm the exact phone. Check its manufacturer-stated wireless input limit and the WPC database entry for the precise model identifier, where available.
- Check the charger’s certification. Establish whether it is certified as Qi2 or Qi2 25W; a magnetic design alone does not confirm the profile.
- Verify the case requirement. For Samsung’s Magnet Wireless Charger, Samsung says Galaxy phones need a Qi2-ready case for magnetic alignment.
- Match the adapter requirements. For Samsung’s stated maximum with this charger, use the specified official Samsung 45W adapter or a higher PPS 20V adapter.
- Check the supported charging mode and region. Samsung’s listed fast or super-fast categories vary by model, and its documentation is regional. Confirm local compatibility and warranty details before purchasing.
Even with a matching setup, the charging rate can vary by device and conditions. Treat a standard’s maximum and a manufacturer’s timed charging claim as different kinds of information rather than promises of the same result.
