Intel’s desktop catalog lists the 800 Series as its newest desktop chipset family, with six models: W890, B860, H810, Q870, W880, and Z890. That answers the question for desktop PCs—not for Intel’s separate mobile, server, or embedded product categories. The catalog is a family-level listing, so it does not establish that every chipset or motherboard is available in every market.
What “current Intel chipset” means
Intel divides its chipset catalog into desktop, mobile, server, and embedded categories. For desktop systems, the newest family shown in Intel’s catalog is the 800 Series. The catalog is a snapshot rather than a guarantee of local availability, and Intel notes that product information can change. Check the Intel desktop chipset catalog for the current listing before choosing hardware.

Intel’s 800 Series desktop listing includes these six chipsets:
- W890
- B860
- H810
- Q870
- W880
- Z890
Intel’s catalog provides summary fields such as PCI Express and USB revisions and overclocking support. Those fields help narrow a search, but do not describe every capability of a specific motherboard.

How to read Intel desktop chipset names
Intel says desktop chipset model numbers generally begin with one or two letters followed by numbers. The first number after the first letter identifies the series: W790, B760, H770, and Z790 are 700 Series examples; W680, B660, H610, and Z690 are 600 Series examples. Intel’s chipset and processor support guidance points readers to product specifications for model comparisons.
The letters indicate product lines, but a prefix or series is not a complete measure of motherboard quality. The board manufacturer determines the specific implementation, including power delivery, connectivity, firmware, physical dimensions, and other features. Compare the exact chipset and board specifications against what the system needs.

Will an Intel processor work with a motherboard?
A chipset name alone cannot confirm that a particular processor will boot in a particular motherboard. Compatibility depends on the exact CPU, socket, motherboard model, and sometimes its BIOS version. Intel’s compatibility information lists supported generations and sockets, while also documenting exceptions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor example, Intel says 600 and 700 Series chipset motherboards require a BIOS update to boot 13th- and 14th-generation Core desktop processors; an update may also be needed when upgrading among 12th-, 13th-, and 14th-generation processors. For a specific build, the motherboard maker’s CPU support list and BIOS notes are the decisive checks.

- Versatile Intel Platform: Supports 10th and 11th Gen Intel Core processors (LGA1200), offering flexible configuration options for business, commercial, and everyday computing needs.
- High-Speed DDR4 Memory: 4 x DDR4 DIMM slots support dual-channel configurations and overclocked speeds up to 4800MHz (OC), providing ample bandwidth for demanding applications.
Older combinations also have exceptions. Intel’s guidance for 10th- and 11th-generation processors lists 400 and 500 Series support, but says 11th-generation processors are not compatible with B460 and H410 motherboards. The same page associates 8th- and 9th-generation processors with 300 Series chipsets and LGA1151, and shows 100/200-series-era combinations for 6th- and 7th-generation processors. These are generation-specific examples, not a rule that processors work across chipset generations. See Intel’s processor and chipset compatibility information.

- ASUS TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WiFi takes all the essential elements of the 14th,13th Gen Intel Core processors and combines them with game-ready features and proven durability. Engineered with military-grade components, an upgraded power solution and a comprehensive cooling system, this motherboard offers rock-solid, stable performance for marathon gaming.
- 16+1 DrMOS, ProCool sockets, military-grade TUF components, and Digiplus VRM for maximum durability and performance
- VRM heatsink, PCH fanless heatsink, M.2 heatsink, hybrid fan headers and Fan Xpert 4 utility
- CPU support: Confirm the exact processor model appears on the board maker’s support list, and note any socket or generation restrictions.
- BIOS readiness: Check the minimum BIOS version for that CPU and the manufacturer’s update procedure. If the board may need an update before it can boot the processor, find out whether it supports firmware updates without a compatible CPU.
- Expansion and connectivity: Check PCI Express revisions and lane or slot arrangements, storage connections, USB ports, networking, and display connections against the devices you plan to use.
- Memory: Verify memory generation, supported capacity and speeds, and whether the chipset and board support the tuning features you want.
- Workload and tuning: Decide whether CPU or memory overclocking, workstation features, or business-oriented features matter for the intended use.
- Board implementation: Confirm form factor, power design, cooling, firmware support, and the manufacturer’s warranty and support terms.
