Apple TV is Apple’s paid streaming subscription for Apple Original series, films and documentaries, with selected live sports in some markets. Apple’s current name for the service is Apple TV; it was formerly called Apple TV+. It is not a television set or a streaming box.
What does Apple TV include?
The subscription gives members access to Apple Original shows, movies and documentaries. Apple also lists selected sports in its current offering. For example, its U.S. description includes MLS, Friday Night Baseball and Formula 1. Sports and available titles depend on the country or region, so a U.S. lineup should not be assumed to apply elsewhere.

Apple TV subscription vs. the Apple TV app
The Apple TV subscription is the paid service. The Apple TV app is the software through which viewers find and watch content. The app also brings together other streaming services and offers some movies and shows for rental or purchase, but those items are not automatically included with an Apple TV subscription. Apple says third-party branded subscriptions, rentals and purchases are separate.

Where can you watch Apple TV?
Open the Apple TV app on a supported device. Apple makes the app available on many Apple devices, smart TVs, streaming devices and gaming consoles. The Apple TV 4K is Apple’s physical streaming device and one option for watching, but it is not required to subscribe: compatible devices from other manufacturers can also run the app.
Why do people still say Apple TV Plus?
Apple changed the subscription’s name from Apple TV+ to Apple TV. Apple Support states, “Apple TV+ is now Apple TV.” People may still use the former name when searching or talking about the service, but it should not be confused with the Apple TV app or Apple TV 4K.
