Taking one 24/7 livestream offline does not, by itself, appear to pause or cancel channel memberships. YouTube’s official membership guidance lists channel-level conditions that can put memberships into paused mode, but does not list an individual stream ending as one of them. That makes this conclusion an inference from YouTube’s published guidance, not an explicit guarantee about every stream-offline scenario.
Three different events have different effects
A broadcast stopping is not the same as memberships being paused, and neither is the same as the channel’s membership program ending. YouTube’s current official Help guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, describes the membership consequences of the latter two states.

What happens if memberships really are paused?
YouTube describes channel memberships as recurring monthly payments for channel-specific benefits. In paused mode, those payments pause and members cannot use the perks. The Join button also disappears, so viewers cannot start a new membership while the channel is paused.
Members are not immediately cancelled
A pause does not automatically cancel every membership at once. Members can choose to cancel at any time, including during the pause. Automatic cancellation timing depends on where the member joined:

- Joined through the Android or iOS app: YouTube automatically cancels it when the member’s billing period ends while the channel is paused.
If the channel resumes memberships
Members who have not cancelled regain their perks. YouTube charges them again at the beginning of their next billing cycle.
If the pause lasts 120 days
If the channel does not leave paused mode within 120 days, YouTube ends the membership program and cancels all remaining memberships. YouTube refunds members’ last month of membership payment, deducting the refunds from the creator’s share of membership revenue.

What can put memberships into paused mode?
YouTube’s consulted membership guide lists channel-level conditions, rather than an individual livestream stopping. The listed causes are:
- The channel is terminated.
- The channel violates monetization policies.
- The channel loses monetization related to leaving or switching content owners.
- The channel is set as Made for Kids.
These are different from taking a single broadcast offline. The official pages consulted do not explicitly address every possible stream-offline scenario, so check the channel’s actual membership status rather than treating the inference as a guarantee.

How to check the membership status
For creators
- Open YouTube Studio and inspect the channel’s Memberships section.
- If it shows paused mode, determine which channel-level condition applies and address it.
- Use the channel-membership controls to turn memberships back on when eligible, subject to YouTube’s terms and policies.
For members
Check your membership and next billing details through YouTube’s membership account controls. If the channel has actually entered paused mode, the membership state—not whether a particular livestream is currently running—is what determines the effects on perks and billing.
