That does not automatically mean your save has been erased. If you buy the game, your achievements and Gamerscore earned during the event can carry on; whether the game also recognizes your trial save depends on that specific title.
What changes when the event ends?
Free Play Days is temporary permission to play, not a promise that the game remains accessible afterward. Once the event or a title’s trial time limit expires, you generally need another eligible way to launch the game, such as purchasing it. Xbox’s Free Play Days page and event announcements show that selections and eligibility change over time.

Keep access and progress separate in your thinking: the end of the promotion affects whether you can play, but it does not by itself establish that the save file was deleted.

Possibly, but it is not guaranteed for every game. Microsoft’s Xbox Game Development Kit documentation explains that developers can implement trials that save state between sessions and carry progress from a trial into the purchased full game. So the practical question is whether the specific game’s trial and full version share compatible save progress. Check the game publisher’s support information or ask its support team before buying if keeping that save is essential. Confirm that the edition and platform you plan to buy match the trial you played.
What about achievements and Gamerscore?
Xbox event announcements say that players who purchase a participating game can continue while keeping Gamerscore and achievements earned during the event. That is distinct from an in-game save: an achievement may remain on your Xbox profile even if a particular game does not carry over its trial save or other in-game progress. The May 28, 2026 Xbox Wire announcement states: “Purchase the game and other editions at a limited time discount and continue playing while keeping your Gamerscore and achievements earned during the event!”

How to decide what to do next
- Check the trial details. Review the current event listing and the game’s store page for the event dates, any play-time limit, membership eligibility, region, and participating edition. Some Free Play Days offers are for members, while others are listed as “Free Play Days for All”; trial limits also vary by title. The current Xbox listing is the place to check rather than assume every event works the same way.
- Verify the purchase version. Before buying, confirm that the store listing is for the compatible Xbox platform and edition, and check its current price and terms. Discounts and availability can differ by title and region.
- Check save compatibility. Look for title-specific confirmation that trial progress transfers to the purchased version. If you cannot find it, treat transfer as uncertain rather than assuming the save will resume.
- Choose an access route. Buying is one way to continue. You can also wait for a future promotion or another eligible access route, but a future event or catalog inclusion is not guaranteed.
A dated example—not a permanent lineup
For October 1 through October 4, 2026, Xbox Wire listed FARCRY 6, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Skull and Bones, and The Crew Motorfest in a Free Play Days for all Xbox members event. Those dates and titles are a specific example, not a standing selection; consult the current Xbox Wire event announcement and store listing for the terms that apply to a particular promotion.
