It is intended to leave the separate personal profile in place, but it is not the same as a factory reset. Google Workspace data remains accessible through other authorized sign-ins; that does not guarantee recovery of work files or settings that existed only on the phone and were never synced.
What is removed from the phone
A Work Profile is a separate space for work apps and data. Work apps are typically marked with a briefcase icon. When you remove the profile, its apps and profile data are deleted from the device. Google’s Android Enterprise guidance states, “After the Work Profile is deleted, all local data on the device within that profile is deleted.” Google Android Enterprise Help
Google also identifies email, contacts, and settings as associated content removed from the device when a work account is removed. On a device with a Work Profile, work-managed apps are removed as well. Google Workspace Help
What happens to personal apps, photos, and files
Removing only the Work Profile is different from wiping the phone. Google describes personal apps, data, and usage as separate from the work side, which the organization manages. A factory reset is broader: it removes both personal and work apps and data. Google Android Enterprise Help

Do not assume every personally owned item is unaffected under every management setup. Google notes that company-owned devices may have additional organization policies affecting the personal profile and overall device behavior. Check with your administrator if the device is company-owned or its management status is unclear.
Local work data versus cloud data
Google says Google Workspace data remains available after removing a work account or profile when you sign in from a computer, a browser, or another authorized mobile device. Before removal, check with your organization or the app administrator about any work content that may exist only in the profile on this phone. If it has not synced or been backed up, deleting the profile removes its local copy.
Can you delete the Work Profile?
According to Google, users can delete the profile on a personally owned device. For a company-owned device, the organization must relinquish ownership to the user before the user can delete it. An organization may also disallow removal of a work account; if Android shows an error or blocks the option, contact the administrator. Google Android Enterprise Help Google Workspace Help

How to remove an Android Work Profile
- Open Settings. The general Android Enterprise route is Settings > Passwords and accounts > Work tab.
- Choose Remove Work Profile, then Delete. Confirm the prompt to remove the profile’s apps and data.
- Check for Device Policy. Google’s instructions say to ensure the Device Policy app has been uninstalled and is no longer present.
On Pixel phones running Android 8.0 or later, Google lists this route: Settings > Passwords, Passkeys & Accounts > Remove work profile > Delete. Menu names can differ on other devices. Google Workspace Help Google Android Enterprise Help
If the removal choice is missing or blocked, your organization’s policy or device ownership may be the reason; ask the administrator for help. If notifications continue after removal, Google’s Workspace guidance suggests a factory reset. Because that reset removes personal as well as work apps and data, treat it as a separate, much broader action and get administrator guidance before proceeding. Google Workspace Help
