Start with Microsoft’s Xbox cross-platform multiplayer catalog, then confirm that the specific Xbox and PC editions support the same multiplayer mode.
How to find Xbox and PC crossplay games
- Browse Microsoft’s catalog. Use the Xbox cross-platform multiplayer collection to find candidates.
- Check the game’s current listing and support information. Confirm that it names Xbox consoles and the PC version or storefront your group uses. A game being available on both platforms does not by itself establish that they can join the same session.
- Verify the mode and setup. Look for crossplay support for the mode you want—such as co-op or campaign—and check whether players need particular accounts, invitations, or cross-network settings.
The catalog is a useful starting point, not a permanent or exhaustive guarantee. Microsoft’s Store policy says titles may enable cross-platform play at their discretion; support can therefore differ by game, edition, and mode. Microsoft Store Policies, version 7.20, says titles may enable synchronous or asynchronous cross-platform gameplay among Xbox network users on Xbox network-enabled platforms, including Xbox consoles and Microsoft Store on Windows.

Confirmed example: Minecraft
Minecraft’s official cross-play information lists Windows 10, Windows 11, and Xbox among the platforms that can play together, alongside Nintendo Switch, PS5, and mobile. Check the current Minecraft product or support page for the exact edition and platform context: this should not be read as a claim that every Minecraft edition is compatible with every other edition.

Xbox Play Anywhere concerns entitlement and progress: Microsoft describes it as allowing a supported game to be accessed across Xbox and Windows PC, with cross-progression. Microsoft also says cross-play is “not required” for Play Anywhere. So a shared purchase or save does not, on its own, prove that Xbox and PC players can join one another online. Cross-progression is not proof of crossplay
A game may carry a player’s progress between platforms without that information establishing which players can join the same multiplayer session. For example, Sea of Thieves’ cross-progression support page says progress carries between PC, Xbox, Battle.net, and PlayStation. That page documents progress sharing; use current multiplayer support information to confirm Xbox-to-PC session compatibility.
Check these details before choosing a game
- Exact versions: Identify the Xbox edition and the PC edition or storefront, rather than relying on the game’s name alone.
- Mode: Confirm crossplay covers the activity your group wants to play.
- Joining requirements: Check for account linking, invite steps, or cross-network settings.
- Access: Verify how each player can currently access the compatible version, whether by purchase or subscription.
These details are title-specific. Confirm them on the game’s current listing or official support page before buying or arranging a session.
