Many kits also include a Wi-Fi router, but not all: Starlink says the Mini, Performance, Performance Gen 2, and Enterprise kits do not include one. What equipment is in a Starlink kit?
Starlink’s general kit contents are a terminal, power supply, cables, base, and Wi-Fi router. The precise contents depend on the kit and generation, so check the listing or setup guide for your exact model before buying extra equipment.

For example, the Standard 4 X kit includes the terminal, kickstand, Router 3, a 15 m Starlink cable, a 1.5 m AC cable, and a 1.5 m power supply. Those contents and cable lengths are specific to Standard 4 X, not a guarantee for every Starlink kit.
Will you need to buy a router?
That depends on the kit. Standard 4 X includes Router 3. Starlink identifies the Mini, Performance, Performance Gen 2, and Enterprise kits as exceptions that do not include a Wi-Fi router. Performance Gen 3 also does not include a router; its setup guide describes a separate Performance Router 3 Kit and instructions for connecting a third-party router.

If your kit does not include a router, plan for a compatible Starlink router or a third-party router. Follow the setup instructions for your specific terminal and power supply when connecting it.
How do Standard 4 X and Performance Gen 3 equipment differ?
These examples show why it is important to check the kit generation rather than assume that every Starlink system uses the same accessories.

These are model-specific contents. Starlink lists multiple families, including Standard 4, Mini, Standard Actuated, Enterprise, Performance Gen 1 and Gen 2, and Standard Circular. Match the setup guide and accessory compatibility information to the name of your kit.

Do you need an extra mount?
Not necessarily. The included kickstand can be used for ground-level placement or an initial setup to test the connection. For a permanent elevated installation—on a roof, pole, or wall, for example—you may need an optional mount and cable-routing accessories. Check that a mount is compatible with your exact terminal model and the surface where it will be installed before purchasing it.

What does the installation location need?
The terminal needs a clear view of the sky to maintain its satellite connection. Starlink recommends using the app’s obstruction tool to check a proposed location; obstructions can cause service interruptions. Check the site before committing to a permanent mount.
How to check what your setup requires
- Identify your kit. Use the model name on your Starlink equipment or packaging, then consult the matching Starlink kit or setup guide. Do not assume connector types, included accessories, or cable lengths are shared across generations.
- Confirm router inclusion. Check the kit contents. If the kit lacks a router, decide whether to obtain the separate Starlink router option described for that system or connect a third-party router using the model’s setup instructions.
- Check the site in the Starlink app. Use the obstruction tool at the intended dish location and look for a clear sky view before installation.
- Plan the mount and cable route. Use the included kickstand if ground-level placement is suitable. If the terminal will be permanently elevated, verify the compatible mount and cable-routing accessories for that model, and make sure the supplied cable arrangement reaches the planned power and network locations.
When to consider professional installation
Starlink says certified professional installers are available for unique installation challenges. Availability depends on location, so check whether this option is offered where you live.
