Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Real-time denoising processes microphone audio as it arrives, reducing sounds classified as background noise before the audio reaches a call or recording. It can make speech easier to hear, but it also changes the signal: depending on the filter and conditions, the voice may sound different or quiet speech may be reduced. It is not the same as headphone active noise cancellation, which is intended to reduce what the wearer hears.
What happens to the microphone signal?
A denoiser analyzes captured audio and estimates which parts are wanted speech and which are unwanted sound. It then attenuates sound it identifies as noise. For example, a software layer can sit between a physical microphone and a communication app, processing the microphone signal before the app receives it; Krisp describes this type of routing in its architecture documentation.

The aim is clearer speech, not perfect preservation of every sound. A basic suppression mode may target steady hum or buzz, while more involved, machine-learning-based suppression is used for voice-call scenarios. Microsoft describes these as different Windows audio-processing modes in its Windows audio documentation.

The intended effect is less background noise and more intelligible speech. The trade-off is that a filter may also reduce wanted parts of the microphone signal. Listen for voice that sounds less natural, quiet syllables or word endings that fade, or breaths that disappear. There is no universal amount of tonal change or single best suppression setting established for every microphone, room, and algorithm.
#1 Best Overall
- [Natural Audio Clarity] Operated with frequency response of 50Hz-16KHz, the podcasting XLR mic delivers balanced audio range, likely to resonate with your audience. Directional cardioid dynamic microphone corded will not exaggerate your voice, while rejects unwanted off-axis noise for vocal originality and intelligibility during your PS5 gaming streaming video recording. (Tips: Keep the top of end-addressing XLR dynamic microphone AM8 facing audio source, and suggested recording range is 2 to 6 in.)
- [XLR Connection Upgrade-Ability] To use XLR connection, connect the podcast microphone to an audio interface (or mixer) using a separate XLR cable (NOT Included) . Well-connected and smooth operation improves audio flexibility to make you explore various types of music recording singing. The streaming mic isolates the pristine and accurate sound from ambient noise with greater no interference and fidelity. (RGB and function key on mic are INACTIVE when using XLR connection.)
- [USB Connection with Handy Mute] Skip the hassle of setting something up and plug the cable to play the dynamic USB microphone directly, which suits for beginner creators or daily podcast. You can quickly control the gamer mic with tap-to-mute that is independent of computer/Macbook programs to keep privacy when live streaming. LED mute reminder helps you get rid of forgetting to cancel the mute. (RGB and function key are only available for USB connection, but NOT for XLR connection)
- [Soothing Controllable RGB] RGB ring on the desktop gaming microphone for PC, with 3 modes and more than 10 light colors collection, matches your PC gears accessories for gaming synergy even in dim room. You can control the RGB key button of the dynamic microphone USB directly for game color scheme gaming or live streaming. Configured memory function, the streaming microphone RGB no need to repeated selections after turnning off and brings itself alive when power on. (Only available for USB connection)
- [More Function Keys] Computer microphone with headphones jack upgrades your rhythm game experience and gets feedback whether the real-time voice your audience hear as expected. Get the desired level via monitoring volume control when gaming recording. Smooth mic gain knob on the PC microphone gaming has some resistance to the point, easily for audio attenuation or boost presence to less post-production audio. (Only available for USB connection)
Real-world listening is important because benchmark performance does not always predict what people hear in ordinary recordings. The INTERSPEECH 2020 DNS Challenge paper reports that results can degrade on real recordings compared with synthetic test sets, and that many objective metrics correlate poorly with subjective listening. A noise score or product demonstration alone cannot establish which setting will sound best in your room.
How denoising differs from other audio processing
| Processing | What it targets | What it means for your audio |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone denoising or noise suppression | Background sounds in the captured microphone signal | Reduces sounds classified as unwanted before the signal is sent or recorded. |
| Active noise cancellation (ANC) | Environmental sound reaching a headphone wearer’s ears | It is a listening-side feature, not a cleanup of the caller’s outgoing microphone signal. |
| Echo cancellation | Playback sound picked up again by a microphone | Reduces echo; meeting platforms may provide it alongside denoising. |
| Dereverberation | Room reflections that smear speech | Reduces reverberation; it is a separate effect, though some systems combine it with denoising. |
| Voice or speaker isolation | Voices other than a selected speaker | Attempts to keep the identified speaker and suppress other voices, which may not suit a shared microphone. |
These features can be offered together, but they are not interchangeable. Microsoft lists suppression, echo cancellation, distorted-speech enhancement, reverberation reduction, and music detection as separate audio-processing tasks in its Teams audio-processing help. NVIDIA likewise documents denoising, dereverberation, room-echo removal, and speaker focus as distinct effects in its Audio Effects SDK guide.

What determines whether it works well?
- Microphone distance and quality: A close, suitable microphone gives the system a stronger voice signal to work with. Microsoft’s Teams voice-isolation instructions advise creating a voice profile in a quiet location and using a high-quality microphone. Krisp says its own models are primarily designed for near-field sources within 50 cm; that is vendor guidance for Krisp, not a universal limit for all denoisers.
- Noise type and level: A steady hum is a different challenge from changing sounds or nearby conversation. A filter that handles one sound well may leave another audible or affect speech while trying to suppress it.
- What the filter is asked to keep: Voice isolation may suppress other people nearby. Teams’ guidance explains that its voice profile helps identify the user’s voice; if another person sharing the room needs to be heard, isolation may be the wrong choice.
- Room echo and reverberation: Noise suppression does not necessarily remove reflections or echo. Those may require separate processing, depending on the app or audio system.
- Routing and compatibility: A separate software denoiser may expose a virtual microphone that must be selected in the calling app. If the app is listening to a different input, its participants will not hear the processed signal.
- Processing delay: Real-time audio must be processed quickly enough for conversation. End-to-end delay also depends on the network, computation, and codec, not just denoising. NVIDIA explains these interacting sources in a 2018 technical article; its implementation-specific figures should not be read as current consumer benchmarks.
How to compare suppression settings
- Keep the setup constant. Use the same microphone, speaking distance, room, and sample speech for each comparison.
- Test the sounds you actually need to manage. Try the relevant background sources, such as a fan, keyboard, traffic, or nearby conversation, rather than relying only on a quiet-room demo.
- Change one setting at a time. Compare the default or unprocessed signal with each suppression mode so you can tell what changed.
- Listen for more than noise volume. Check speech intelligibility and naturalness, residual noise, quiet syllables, breaths, word endings, other speakers, and any music or other wanted audio.
- Try the real call path. Check that the calling app is using the intended physical or virtual microphone, then listen for conversational delay and confirm that other people can understand you.
This comparison approach reflects the DNS Challenge paper’s warning that synthetic-test results and objective scores do not necessarily capture subjective quality on real recordings. It is a practical way to evaluate your own setup, not a claim that one published study tested this exact checklist.

Turn it down or off if it makes speech less intelligible, cuts off quiet words, or suppresses another person who needs to be heard. If the main problem is room echo, try echo cancellation or dereverberation where available; if the noise is what you hear through headphones, microphone denoising is not the relevant control. A close-talk microphone can improve the input signal, but it does not itself perform denoising.
