Questionable means the team is uncertain whether a player will play in the game. It is not a prediction that the player will sit—or a guarantee that they will suit up. Check the designation alongside the player’s practice participation, then recheck for updates near kickoff.
What the NFL designations mean
The NFL’s game-status designation is the club’s stated expectation about whether a player will participate. The practice report is separate: it records how much the player took part in practice. A player’s practice entry can help you assess the situation, but it is not itself a game designation.

- Questionable: It is uncertain whether the player will play.
- Doubtful: The player is unlikely to participate.
- Out: The player will not play.
The NFL removed Probable from its game-status categories. Do not treat it as a current official designation.
How to read practice participation
- Did Not Participate (DNP): The player did not take part in that practice.
- Limited Participation: The player took part in less than 100% of normal repetitions.
- Full Participation: The player took part in 100% of normal repetitions.
Limited participation does not mean the player will play, and a DNP on one practice report does not by itself tell you the final game status. Read the participation entry as information about that practice session, not as a substitute for the club’s game designation. See the NFL’s injury-reporting policy.

When injury reports are filed
For a typical Sunday regular-season game, clubs file practice reports Wednesday through Friday. The game-status report is filed Friday, generally by 4:00 p.m. New York time or as soon as possible after practice. Games played on other days follow different filing days, so do not apply the Sunday schedule to every matchup. The NFL describes the reporting schedule in its injury-reporting policy.
What to do if a status changes before kickoff
- Check the latest official update. A designation reflects the information available when the report was filed. If a player’s condition changes afterward, the club must report an update.
- Recheck close to kickoff. Do not rely on an earlier questionable or doubtful designation as if it were final. Look for the latest club update and confirm whether the player is active or inactive before locking your lineup.
- Use a practical backup plan. If the player remains uncertain and your fantasy platform allows late swaps, identify an eligible replacement whose game has not started. Make the decision using the latest information available to you.
The NFL policy explains that clubs must report changes to a player’s condition after the initial game-status report. For a general guide to the report and update process, see NFL Football Operations.
