Its portfolio includes servers, storage, networking, hybrid-cloud products, software and support; it earns revenue from equipment and software sales, subscriptions and usage-based services, professional services, and customer financing. HPE is separate from HP Inc., the company associated more closely with personal computers and printers.
What does Hewlett Packard Enterprise do?
HPE supplies the technology organizations use to process workloads, store and manage data, connect users and devices, and operate infrastructure across data centers, public clouds, colocation facilities and the network edge. Its FY2026 reporting groups its business into Cloud & AI, Networking, and Corporate Investments and Other. The underlying portfolio spans servers, hybrid cloud and storage, networking, financial services, and professional and advisory services.

Hybrid cloud, storage and software
HPE offers storage systems, private-cloud infrastructure and software, along with options customers can manage themselves or have managed for them. Hybrid-cloud products are intended to support workloads and data across more than one environment, rather than requiring an organization to use only a public cloud or only its own data center.

What is HPE GreenLake?
HPE GreenLake is the umbrella platform and offer family for HPE’s hybrid and consumption-based infrastructure experiences. HPE describes it as supporting customers across public clouds, data centers, colocation facilities and the edge. In its FY2025 Form 10-K, HPE says: “The HPE GreenLake cloud is designed to deliver a seamless hybrid experience with true pay-per-use consumption and automated scalability.” That is HPE’s description of its own offering, not an independent assessment of its performance or value.
GreenLake is associated with consumption-based arrangements, but HPE also sells traditional capital-expenditure and license-based options. The company’s overall revenue should not be treated as entirely recurring simply because it offers subscriptions and usage-based services.

How does HPE make money?
Hardware sales
HPE sells servers, storage systems and networking equipment. Hardware remains a major source of revenue: server products alone represented more than half of HPE’s consolidated revenue in FY2025, according to the company’s product-category disclosure.
Software, support and services
HPE earns revenue from software and licenses, maintenance, technical support, training, and professional services related to its infrastructure and networking products. Some are bundled with equipment; others are sold separately or through subscription arrangements.

- 1 processors supported for optimal performance and maximum reliability in mission-critical server environments
- With 32 GB memory, improve system performance to execute complex applications smoothly and shorten processing time
- 1.88 TB SSD offers generous storage with faster speeds than HDDs, perfect for large files, digital content, and quick access
- 500 W power supply unit (PSU) included for hassle-free deployment and reliable power delivery in server environments

Subscriptions and consumption
Some HPE offerings are sold through subscriptions or consumption-based models, including GreenLake’s pay-per-use positioning. These give customers alternatives to buying and licensing infrastructure up front, but do not replace HPE’s traditional sales models across the whole business.
Financing and leasing
HPE Financial Services offers leasing, financing, IT consumption and utility programs, and asset management. It supports customer acquisition of HPE and third-party hardware, software and services, and can support flexible consumption arrangements. The precise cost or suitability of a financing arrangement depends on its terms and the customer’s situation.

The figures below are company-reported U.S. dollars. HPE’s fiscal year ends October 31. FY2025 segment amounts use the structure then in effect; FY2026 figures use the reorganized structure, so the segment names and boundaries do not match one-to-one.
| Period and reporting structure | Reported revenue |
|---|---|
| FY2025 consolidated | $34.296 billion |
| FY2025 Server segment | $17.639 billion |
| FY2025 Networking segment | $6.837 billion |
| FY2025 Hybrid Cloud segment | $5.544 billion |
| FY2025 Financial Services segment | $3.507 billion |
| First nine months of FY2026, new structure, through July 31, 2026 | $32.192 billion total segment revenue: Cloud & AI, $23.083 billion; Networking, $8.289 billion; Corporate Investments and Other, $820 million |
| FY2026 third quarter, ended July 31, 2026 | $12.213 billion consolidated net revenue |
At the start of FY2026, HPE combined Server, Hybrid Cloud and Financial Services into Cloud & AI. It also moved Telco and Instant On out of Networking and into Corporate Investments and Other. Use the FY2026 structure to describe the current organization, and treat FY2025 segment figures as historical results under the prior structure. The quarterly figures are through July 31, 2026; later results may change the latest reported totals.

HPE offers different ways to acquire and operate infrastructure: customers can compare upfront capital expenditure with ongoing operating expenditure, self-managed infrastructure with managed service, and licensed or owned equipment with usage-based consumption. These are choices about financing, operation and service scope—not proof that one model is universally cheaper. Total cost depends on workload, utilization, financing terms, contract duration and the services included.
In short, HPE is an enterprise infrastructure company whose revenue combines technology products with related software, support, services and financing. Servers were its largest reported product category in FY2025, while its FY2026 reporting reflects a reorganized Cloud & AI, Networking, and Corporate Investments and Other structure.
