In Windows 11, First day of week is a regional-format preference for how a calendar lays out the week when that view follows Windows’ regional setting. It does not change dates, add or remove workdays, or set your work schedule. Some apps, including Outlook, have their own calendar preferences, so they may show a different start day.
Where to change the setting in Windows 11
The reported Settings route is Settings > Time & language > Language & region > Regional format > Change formats > First day of week. Choose the day you want from the menu. The exact navigation is documented by iTechGuides; Microsoft’s Windows documentation describes regional date and time formatting but does not provide this precise sequence.

What the preference affects—and what it does not
The choice tells a calendar view that honors the Windows regional preference which weekday to place first in its week layout. Windows formats dates and times according to regional settings, but Microsoft’s documentation does not enumerate every Windows calendar view or third-party app that follows this particular choice. The taskbar calendar is a Windows calendar access surface; the available Microsoft support information does not establish that every calendar view inherits the preference.
Changing the first day changes presentation, not the underlying calendar: it does not move an appointment to another date, make a day a working day, or define working hours. Those are separate calendar settings.

Why Outlook may show a different first day
Outlook provides its own first-day-of-week controls. In Outlook on the web, Microsoft says the selected day appears first in Week view. New Outlook and classic Outlook also expose the preference in Outlook’s calendar options. If Outlook’s week starts on a day different from Windows’ setting, check the Outlook setting rather than assuming the Windows preference controls it.
Outlook also treats workdays, working hours, and week numbering as separate options. In classic Outlook, the documented defaults are Monday through Friday for workdays, 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. for working hours, and Sunday as the first day of the week; these are Outlook defaults, not universal Windows defaults. Outlook on the web separately offers week-numbering choices: start numbering with the first day of the year, the first four-day week, or the first full week.

Keep the three calendar choices separate
| Choice | What it controls | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| First day of week | Which weekday appears first in a calendar layout that uses the setting | Windows regional format, or an app’s own calendar options |
| Workdays and working hours | Which days and hours are treated as work time in an app’s calendar | That app’s calendar settings |
| Week numbering | Which rule determines the numbering of calendar weeks | Outlook’s own week-number settings, where configured |
Windows’ regional settings are part of its locale-aware date and time formatting; Microsoft explains this behavior in Globalize your date/time/number formats. For Windows time, date, and time-zone settings, see Microsoft’s Windows settings guide.
