How to clean the filter and clear CF
- Find the model-specific removal instructions. Use the product manual to locate and remove the indoor filter; access methods can differ between units.
- Remove dust gently. Samsung recommends a soft brush or vacuum. Avoid force and hard brushes, which can damage the filter.
- Wash only if the manual permits it. Samsung Saudi Arabia’s general guidance says to soak the filter in water with mild detergent for 30 minutes, rinse it, then air-dry it in a ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Confirm wet cleaning is suitable for your filter before using this method.
- Reinstall the filter when it is fully dry. Do not put a damp filter back into the unit.
- Reset the reminder. On the cited Samsung remote procedure, while the unit is operating, choose Options → Filter Reset → SET. If your remote has no Options button or the menu differs, follow the manual for your model.
How often should you clean it?
Samsung Mexico’s indoor-unit code guide recommends cleaning every two weeks or when CF appears. That is regional guidance, not a universal interval established for every Samsung model or region. Follow your product manual, especially if the room is unusually dusty or the filter has different care requirements.
CF versus dF in heating mode
Do not confuse CF with dF. Samsung Saudi Arabia’s regional code guide describes dF as an automatic defrost process during heating; CF is the filter-cleaning reminder. The code guide is regional, and display conventions may vary by model.

If CF remains after cleaning
Confirm that the filter is correctly installed and dry, then check that you completed the reset procedure for your remote and model. If CF still appears, note the model number and displayed code and contact Samsung support for model-specific advice. The general CF guidance does not establish what a persistent message means for a particular unit. The correct replacement filter, if one is needed, also depends on the exact model.
