A T-Con board, short for timing-control board, helps coordinate the image displayed on an LED TV. If it fails, the picture may show faults such as a broken section, lines, or incorrect colors—but those symptoms alone cannot confirm the T-Con is the cause. Diagnosis depends on the exact TV, and replacement boards must match its model and part number.
What a T-Con board does
The T-Con is part of the TV’s display-control path. At a high level, it helps coordinate the image shown on the screen. The service-manual and repair examples available here support that explanation, but they do not establish one detailed circuit design or signal path that applies to every LED TV. Designs can differ, and the sources do not establish how every model implements these functions.

What symptoms can point to a T-Con problem?
Picture faults can make the T-Con one possible suspect. They are clues, not a diagnosis: other parts of the TV can produce similar results.
Broken or missing parts of the picture
An LG service manual gives a broken image in the lower portion of the screen as an example of a defective T-Con. Dark picture, inverted colors, or vertical lines
In one repair account for the Samsung UN60FH6003, the TV powered on with sound and backlight but had a dark picture. The guide also describes inverted colors, vertical lines, and a picture missing from half the screen as faults relevant to that repair. It considered a T-Con problem most likely in that particular case, while also identifying a main-board failure as a less likely possibility. How to tell whether the T-Con is actually at fault
Use the service procedure for the exact TV model rather than diagnosing from the appearance of the picture alone. A T-Con, main board, panel, cable, or another subsystem may be responsible for similar image problems. The LG manuals provide model-specific service information, and the iFixit example itself considered both the T-Con and main board. If the correct service documentation or appropriate diagnostic experience is not available, a qualified TV repair technician can check the set before a part is purchased.

How to choose a replacement board
T-Con boards are model-specific. Check both the television’s exact model and the number printed on or specified for its existing board; verify the match against reliable parts information or service documentation before ordering. A similar-looking board—or a board described as compatible with a different TV—is not enough to establish a match.

When replacing the board may not solve the problem
Because the same picture fault can come from another subsystem, a replacement T-Con may not correct the display if the underlying problem is elsewhere. Confirm the diagnosis and the part match before buying or replacing a board. The cited examples do not establish repair success rates, typical costs, or a universal level of repair difficulty across TV models.
