A borderless monitor is not literally edge-free. The term usually describes a display with a very slim, hard-to-notice bezel—the physical frame around the screen. A dark inactive strip may still separate the visible picture from the monitor’s outside edge, and the panel still needs structure. The design mainly changes appearance; it does not, by itself, indicate better resolution, color, refresh rate, or gaming performance.
What “borderless” means on a monitor
“Borderless,” “frameless,” “bezel-less,” and “thin-bezel” are commonly used for monitors whose visible frame is minimized. These are design descriptions, not promises that the monitor has no frame or inactive edge. Samsung’s explanation puts it plainly: “All monitors need a bezel, so ‘bezel-less’ essentially means ‘very minimal bezel.’” Samsung’s monitor explainer uses the wording under Samsung Insights and does not identify an individual speaker.

What the bezel does—and why an edge can remain
The bezel is the physical frame around a display panel, outside the active area that produces the image. It can support the display and help protect the panel’s edges. Making that frame thinner brings the visible picture closer to the monitor’s outer edge, but it does not remove the panel’s physical requirements.
There may also be a dark strip between the illuminated picture and the exterior frame. Samsung Display describes circuitry around the active display area, and Xiaomi explains that LCD panels can retain a black-matrix area near the edge to help prevent light leakage. Consequently, a monitor can look nearly border-free from the front while still showing an inactive dark edge. Samsung Display’s technology overview and Xiaomi’s explanation of the screen edge describe these panel-related details.

What a slim bezel changes in everyday use
A cleaner-looking display
The main effect is visual: less frame draws attention away from the picture and can make the image seem to extend closer to the monitor’s edges. Lenovo describes the appeal for multi-window use, while Philips presents its four-sided frameless design as suitable for multi-monitor arrangements. These are design benefits, not evidence of a change to the display’s technical performance. Lenovo’s bezel-less monitor explanation and Philips’ four-sided frameless monitor description illustrate the intended presentation.
Less visual interruption across multiple screens
When monitors sit side by side, narrow bezels can reduce the apparent interruption where their images meet. They do not make separate displays into one physically continuous panel: a boundary remains, and the size and appearance of the gap depend on the specific monitors and how they are positioned. Philips’ multi-monitor use case is a design rationale rather than a universal measurement of how much gap a particular setup will have.

How to interpret bezel measurements
There is no universal “borderless” measurement in the cited specifications. Manufacturers may describe different sides of a screen or report different measurement details, so a label alone is not enough to establish how narrow every edge will look.

Its publication date is not stated; the available search result indicates approximately 2019. These figures describe that product specification and should not be treated as an industry standard or a general definition of borderless. LG BK750-series specification sheet.

How to compare borderless monitors
Start with what you need the monitor to do, then evaluate the bezel as a separate design consideration. A slim bezel does not tell you whether the display has the resolution, panel type, refresh rate, or stand adjustments you need.
Quick Recap
Rank #4
- Vibrant Images: Crisp, true-to-life colors come alive in Full HD 1080p resolution. Movies and games appear more real and dramatic, and small details and text are clear with 1920x1080 resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
- Adaptive-Sync Support: Get fast refresh rates thanks to the Adaptive-Sync Support (FreeSync Compatible) product that matches the refresh rate of your monitor with your graphics card. The result is a smooth, tear-free experience in gaming and video playback applications.
- Up 100Hz Refresh Rate: The 100Hz refresh rate speeds up the frames per second to deliver an ultra-smooth 2D motion scene. With a rapid refresh rate of up to 100Hz, Acer Monitors shorten the time it takes for frame rendering, lower input lag and provide gamers an excellent in-game experience.
- Responsive!!: Fast response time of 1ms enhances the experience. Fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting.
- ZeroFrame Design: With a KB220Q monitor, you’ll want to see as much of the display as possible. Get more real estate with the near bezel-less design, allowing you to see more and do more. The ZeroFrame design lets you place multiple monitors next to each other for a seamless, almost uninterrupted view.
- Check how many sides are slim. A three-sided design does not claim the same treatment on all four edges. Look for a description or product image that makes the sides clear.
- Read the measurement label and method. Note whether a manufacturer reports an “on bezel,” “off bezel,” or other measurement, and whether the figure applies to all sizes. Do not assume numbers from different manufacturers are directly comparable unless their measurement details match.
- Consider the inactive edge, not just the outside frame. If a nearly continuous image matters in a multi-monitor setup, product photos and specifications should be checked for the visible panel edge as well as the exterior bezel.
- Compare the specifications that affect your use. Check resolution, panel type, refresh rate, and stand adjustments independently; bezel design does not establish any of them.
What “borderless” does not tell you
- It does not mean that the monitor has no physical frame or inactive edge.
- It does not establish a universal bezel width or promise that all four sides are equally slim.
- It does not, by itself, indicate better image quality, resolution, color, refresh rate, or gaming performance.
- It does not guarantee that two monitors will look like a single uninterrupted screen when placed together.
