Snapchat Planets show your position—first through eighth—in one friend’s Best Friends list. The order is Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The feature is part of Snapchat+, and the planet is an ordinal position, not a score of how close you are.
What is the Snapchat Friend Solar System?
Friend Solar System is a Snapchat+ feature that represents a friend as the Sun and you as a planet in their Solar System. Snapchat defines Best Friends as the eight people someone Snaps and Chats with most. If the feature is enabled, a planet on your Friendship Profile badge indicates which position you occupy in that friend’s Best Friends list.

Snapchat’s support page describes the planet as a different position in the list; the sequence below is also laid out ordinally in a March 24, 2026 explainer.

| Position | Planet | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mercury | First position in that friend’s Best Friends list |
| 2 | Venus | Second position |
| 3 | Earth | Third position |
| 4 | Mars | Fourth position |
| 5 | Jupiter | Fifth position |
| 6 | Saturn | Sixth position |
| 7 | Uranus | Seventh position |
| 8 | Neptune | Eighth position |
These are positions in that friend’s list, not a measure of emotional closeness. Your planet in one friend’s Solar System does not tell you your position in someone else’s list.

- Open the relevant friend’s profile to reach their Friendship Profile.
- Tap the gold-ring Best Friends badge to see which planet represents your position.
What the planet does—and does not—tell you
Snapchat describes the feature as a private visual indicator. In its April 5, 2024 newsroom statement, Snap said: “It does not show any other friends, it is not a numerical ranking, and it is not visible to anyone else.” That describes the feature’s stated visibility; it should not be read as a broader guarantee about Snapchat’s data practices.

How Snapchat decides the planet position
Snapchat’s official support and newsroom sources do not explain an exact interaction formula, the weights given to different activities, or how often positions update. Claims assigning specific percentages or asserting a verified formula for Snaps, chats, reactions, or streaks are not established by those official sources. Treat the planet as the position the app currently displays, not as a calculation you can reproduce or a promise about what activity will change it.
