The published prices currently available for online cybersecurity master’s programs range from $8,000 in tuition at MIU City University Miami to $44,490 in estimated tuition at Hawai‘i Pacific University—but those figures are not directly comparable all-in totals. The clearest published total is SIUE’s $16,702.50, which its program page says includes fees. Other schools publish per-credit rates that must be multiplied by required credits to estimate tuition, and those calculations may exclude additional charges. This provisional comparison reflects university pages reviewed in October 2026; it is not a complete or final ranking of 2027–28 prices.
How to read this 2027 cost comparison
For a useful comparison, start with published program tuition and required credits, then check whether mandatory fees are included. A published total, a calculated tuition estimate, and an all-in cost of attendance are different measures. The figures below are institution-published prices or calculations based on those prices—not a standardized estimate of every expense.

“For 2027” refers to prospective enrollment timing, not a uniform tuition year. The available pages include 2026–27 academic-year rates and term-specific estimates, and they do not establish final 2027–28 rates for every program. The list is therefore a provisional comparison of the programs for which usable official pricing was available, not an exhaustive national ranking.
Online cybersecurity master’s programs, ordered by available cost evidence
| Program | Published tuition evidence | Credits and delivery | 2027 timing and important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIU City University Miami, Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity | $8,000 tuition for the program; the page also lists $222 per credit, $300 in fees, and a separate $400 graduation fee. Tuition is not the all-in cost once those charges are considered. MIU program page | 36 credits; online, in English or Spanish. | January 2027 start and 18-month duration listed. |
| Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), online MS in MIS with cybersecurity focus | $16,702.50 total tuition at $556.75 per credit; SIUE says the listed tuition includes fees. Its page says tuition is subject to change without notice. SIUE program page | 30 credit hours; online, with cybersecurity management or cybersecurity analytics electives. This is an MS in MIS, not a degree titled simply MS Cybersecurity. | January 16, 2027 start listed. |
| SUNY Empire State University, M.S. in Cybersecurity | $471 per credit. At 30–33 credits, that produces a calculated tuition estimate of $14,130–$15,543 before any unlisted or additional charges; this is not an official program total. SUNY Empire program page | 30–33 credits; 100% online. | Spring 2027 listed as the next term. The page gives a December 4 application deadline; confirm that deadline for the intended intake. |
| West Virginia University (WVU) Online, Cybersecurity M.S. | $805 per credit. At 30 credits, the calculated tuition estimate is $24,150 before any other charges; this is not a published all-in total. WVU program listing | 30 credits; asynchronous online learning with synchronous office hours. | January 11, 2027 start listed; courses are eight weeks, and the stated completion range is one to three years. |
| University of the Pacific, online M.S. in Cybersecurity | $1,318 per unit. At 30 units, multiplication gives a tuition estimate of $39,540. Separately, the university estimates tuition per term at $7,908–$15,816 for Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer 2027, depending on enrollment load. Fees and programs may change. University tuition page | 30 units; online. | The term estimates are not the full-program price; the university warns that tuition and fees may change. |
| Hawai‘i Pacific University, online M.S. in Cybersecurity | For academic year 2026–27, estimated tuition is $44,490, excluding fees, at $1,483 per credit. HPU graduate tuition page | 30 credits; online. | The stated estimate is for 2026–27, not a confirmed 2027–28 rate. |
| St. John’s University, online M.S. in Cyber Security and Information Systems | The general online graduate rate is $1,000 per credit for Fall 2026–Spring 2027. A complete degree credit total was not established in the tuition result, so a program tuition total cannot be calculated from that information. St. John’s tuition and fees | The degree appears among the university’s online programs; the retrieved tuition information does not establish total credits. | Verify applicable degree credits and fees before comparing its total cost. |
What the prices do—and do not—say
Published totals are not automatically all-in totals
SIUE provides the strongest directly comparable total in this set: $16,702.50, with fees included according to its program page. MIU City University Miami publishes $8,000 in tuition, but also lists $300 in fees and a separate $400 graduation fee. Those figures should not be collapsed into a claim that the program costs $8,000 in total.
#1 Best Overall
Calculated tuition estimates are not official program totals
SUNY Empire’s $14,130–$15,543 range comes from multiplying its $471 rate by the stated 30–33 credits. WVU’s $24,150 estimate similarly multiplies $805 by 30 credits, and Pacific’s $39,540 estimate multiplies $1,318 by 30 units. Each calculation covers tuition at the listed rate only; it does not establish unlisted fees or other charges.
Term estimates and academic-year prices need their own labels
Pacific’s $7,908–$15,816 term estimate varies with enrollment load and covers the listed Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and Summer 2027 terms; it is not the full program cost. HPU’s $44,490 estimate is specifically for 2026–27 and excludes fees. Neither figure should be presented as a confirmed full 2027–28 cost.
Programs that cannot yet be ranked by comparable price
Franklin University has online cybersecurity master’s offerings, and Northern Kentucky University describes a 100% online M.S. with in-state and out-of-state tuition at the same rate. The official search results available for this comparison did not provide enough current, comparable pricing to place either program in the cost ordering. Check each university’s current tuition, required credits, and mandatory fees before comparing it with the figures above. What to verify before applying for a 2027 start
- Applicable tuition year: Confirm the rate for the actual entry term. A 2026–27 figure is not proof of the 2027–28 price.
- Complete program requirements: Check the required credit or unit total and whether prior learning or transfer credit changes the number of courses you must take.
- Fees beyond tuition: Ask which mandatory charges are included in any published total. MIU’s listed fees and graduation charge illustrate why a tuition figure alone may not represent the amount billed.
- Degree identity: Compare the credential and focus, not just the word “cybersecurity.” SIUE’s is an MS in MIS with cybersecurity elective options; other listed programs name cybersecurity in the degree title.
- Online schedule: Review delivery expectations and meeting times. WVU, for example, describes asynchronous coursework alongside synchronous office hours.
- Start dates and application deadlines: Recheck the university’s current calendar for the specific 2027 intake.
Because prices can change, use the university’s current tuition page or obtain a written estimate from the program before making a decision. SIUE says its tuition is subject to change without notice, and the University of the Pacific says tuition and fees may change.
