Bijan, a self-described ethical hacker, says the setup reduced context switching and let separate tasks run concurrently. It did not eliminate approval prompts, the need to review results, or the risks of granting broad access.
What “AI hands on a machine” means
Bijan describes moving from handing work among different AI models to running Claude Code on a virtual machine. Previously, shifting code between models could lose context or assumptions. In the newer workflow, the agent can act on the machine rather than merely return instructions for Bijan to carry out.

That is a practical change in the division of labor: the agent can perform machine-based steps, while the human defines the task, grants or denies access, and checks what happened. Bijan also describes defining reusable task skills and working on separate targets concurrently. The account does not quantify time saved or establish that the workflow is faster in general.

What improved—and what did not
Less copying and context switching
Keeping the agent and task on the same machine can reduce the need to transfer code and restate assumptions across tools. Bijan reports less context switching as a benefit, but provides no measured comparison or productivity figures.

Concurrent work
Bijan says separate tasks can run concurrently. That can make it easier to delegate independent work, but the source does not describe how tasks were isolated from one another or how their results were coordinated.
Human review remains necessary
Direct access does not make an agent’s work self-validating. Bijan’s stated rule is: “Output still needs verifying every time; nothing here removes that step.” A person still has to check the changes and decide whether an action or result is acceptable.

Why the virtual machine matters—and what it cannot guarantee
Bijan describes using a disposable VM so that, if the agent makes a mistake, the environment can be deleted rather than cleaned up in a production environment. This is a rollback convenience, not evidence that a VM automatically contains every possible consequence. The account does not specify the virtualization software, guest operating system, configuration, network access, or what host resources and credentials were exposed.

Permission controls create a trade-off
Bijan rejects fully unsupervised machine access and says the workflow uses gated permissions. Approval prompts can interrupt work, but granting broad permissions to avoid those interruptions increases practical risk. The source does not identify the specific permission settings or approval mechanism, so it does not support a step-by-step configuration or a claim that one setup is secure.
The underlying choice is between convenience and control: allow only the actions needed for the task, and expect to approve consequential operations. Removing gates may make work smoother, but it also leaves fewer opportunities for a person to stop an unwanted action.

Why “nothing found” is not proof of security
Bijan’s security-specific warning is that an agent may test within the parameters it has been given without considering the unconventional approaches a human tester might try. A report that the agent found no vulnerability is therefore not, by itself, evidence that a target is secure. This is the author’s judgment, not a measured comparison of AI and human testing.
For security work, treat an agent’s findings as input for human evaluation, not as assurance. The limitations of the task definition, access, and methods matter as much as the result.

What this account establishes
In a DEV Community post titled “I Gave AI Hands on a Virtual Machine — Here’s What Changed,” Bijan describes a workflow change and its perceived benefits and drawbacks. The search result gives a Sep 28 post date but no year. It does not state a Claude Code version, VM platform, operating system, host hardware, resource allocation, network configuration, or permission setup. The account is a personal report, not a reproducible test of productivity, accuracy, or security outcomes.
