Capcom’s reported RE:2026 presentation focused on AI-related tools for game-development workflows, not a confirmed plan to put AI-generated assets in finished games. The distinction is consistent with Capcom’s earlier investor-session position, reported in March 2026: use generative AI to improve development efficiency and productivity, but do not incorporate AI-generated assets into game content. The conference details come from news reports rather than an official transcript or slide deck, so they should be read with that qualification.
What Capcom discussed at the RE:2026 conference
At Capcom Open Conference RE:2026, held on October 2, 2026, programmer Satoshi Ishida discussed REX, Capcom’s effort to continue evolving RE ENGINE. PC Gamer described AI-related systems for handling data, optimizing development tools, supporting group animation and runtime work, and making it easier to implement game-mechanic ideas. Those are reported descriptions of development systems; the conference materials themselves have not been independently verified here. PC Gamer’s event report cautioned against interpreting “AI-generation game engine” as a statement that the engine will generate final game assets.

Kotaku’s account emphasized different details, including tools named RE:Dox and RE:Log and the possibility of AI agents helping test builds, record issues, find bugs, and suggest fixes for a human developer to apply. Kotaku also attributed the conference statement “AI is not a replacement for humans” to Capcom, without identifying an individual speaker for that sentence. Kotaku’s report should therefore be treated as the source for those specifics, not as a confirmed quotation from Ishida.

Development assistance is different from AI-generated game content
The key distinction is where AI is used and what happens to its output. A development-process tool may help staff manage data, test a build, find a bug, or optimize a tool. An asset incorporated into released game content is a different use. A workflow tool can affect how a game is made without establishing that generated art, writing, audio, or other assets appear in the game itself.
| Use | What it means | What the cited statements establish |
|---|---|---|
| Development-process assistance | Tools used during production for tasks such as testing, data handling, or workflow support. | RE:2026 reports describe tools in this category, but the examples are secondary reporting rather than independently checked conference materials. |
| AI-generated assets in game content | Generated material incorporated into the content delivered to players. | PC Gamer reported that Capcom’s February 16, 2026 investor session said the company would not incorporate AI-generated assets into game content. |
That reported investor-session statement is a meaningful indication of Capcom’s position at that time, not a complete published policy for every possible case. It does not specify how Capcom would classify, for example, a generated concept later substantially altered by an artist. Nor does it establish that AI-generated content is present in any particular Capcom game. PC Gamer’s March 2026 account says the investor session paired the no-assets position with an intention to use generative AI to improve development efficiency and productivity.

What Capcom has said about AI and RE ENGINE before
Capcom’s official investor-relations dialogue says the company already uses AI in RE ENGINE and in quality-control bug checks. It also says Capcom continues to examine possible generative-AI uses in development, while identifying copyright infringement, data security, and training or securing specialist personnel as concerns. The statement describes ongoing evaluation, not a complete list of approved tools or a release policy. Capcom’s shareholder and investor dialogue provides the company’s own account.

REX is an evolution of RE ENGINE, not a wholesale replacement
Capcom’s 2025 integrated report describes REX—“RE neXt Engine”—as a next-generation effort to advance its in-house engine. The company says it plans to integrate new technologies over time rather than replace RE ENGINE all at once: “Rather than completely replacing RE ENGINE, we plan to evolve it step by step, integrating new technologies in line with trends in IT.” The report also describes RE ENGINE as supporting Capcom’s in-house development across genres. Capcom’s 2025 report gives the roadmap context; it does not provide a final REX launch schedule.

Capcom reported that the RE ENGINE-related department had approximately 200 engineers in 2025, including around 160 focused on engine development. Those are company-reported staffing figures, not a measure of the number of people working on REX specifically.
