Arcade Archives is HAMSTER Corporation’s series of classic arcade games re-released for modern platforms. The key difference from a console port is the game’s source version: an Arcade Archives release represents an arcade game, while a console port is a version adapted for home-console hardware. That distinction does not guarantee that every re-release is technically identical to its original, or that every title includes the same options.
What does “Arcade Archives” mean?
HAMSTER describes Arcade Archives, also called the ACA series, as a collection of classic arcade games reproduced “staying true to its original.” In practical terms, the label identifies HAMSTER’s modern-platform releases of games that originated in arcades. It is the publisher’s description of the series, not independent proof that every release is bit-perfect or identical to original arcade hardware. HAMSTER’s Arcade Archives series page

How is an Arcade Archives game different from a console port?
The terms describe different things. “Arcade Archives” names a particular re-release series and identifies its arcade-game focus. A “console port” describes a version adapted for a home-console platform. A game may have begun in an arcade and later received a console port, so “arcade game” and “console port” are not mutually exclusive descriptions of the same game’s history.

Arcade Archives is not the same as Console Archives
HAMSTER also publishes Console Archives (CSA), a separate series for classic games that originally appeared on home consoles. The company describes it as bringing those console-origin games to modern platforms. Its listed features include customizable button layouts, rapid-fire settings, multiple save points, rewind, screen-layout adjustments, and filters. These are Console Archives features; they should not be assumed to apply to Arcade Archives releases. HAMSTER’s Console Archives series page
What features do Arcade Archives releases include?
HAMSTER lists adjustable settings, online high-score rankings, and CRT-style display options among Arcade Archives features. The available options can depend on the game, so check the individual store listing rather than treating the series description as a promise that every title has every feature.

Related labels can have their own additions. In its ACA NEOGEO announcement, HAMSTER describes Time Attack and online Network Mode for ACA2NEOGEO, while warning that not every title includes all additional features. These modes should not be generalized to standard Arcade Archives releases. HAMSTER’s ACA2NEOGEO announcement
Availability depends on the title, platform, and region
There is no single platform list that applies to every game in the series. For example, HAMSTER’s March 26, 2026 announcement listed FINAL LAP, originally a 1987 Namco arcade racing game, as Arcade Archives for Nintendo Switch and PS4, and as Arcade Archives 2 for Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The announcement also noted that digital availability may vary by country or region. This is a title-specific example, not a rule for the rest of the catalog. HAMSTER’s FINAL LAP announcement

For a particular game, compare the current regional store listings for:
- Release label: the original Arcade Archives release, ACA NEOGEO, or a newer Arcade Archives 2 version.
- Source version: the arcade release or another edition, where the listing identifies it.
- Platform and region: whether that specific edition is available in your country on your system.
- Modes and players: the supported play modes and player count listed for that release.
- Options: its controls, display settings, rankings, and any save or rewind features.
HAMSTER’s announcements illustrate why dated platform information should not be treated as a current catalog guarantee. Its February 2025 ACA NEOGEO announcement described versions then available on PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Windows 10 PC, alongside additions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; it also said store availability differed by country or region. Check the current listing for the game and region you intend to use.

How long has the series been around?
HAMSTER says Arcade Archives became available on PS4 in May 2014. The company reported that Arcade Archives and ACA NEOGEO together reached 400 available titles in January 2024 and 500 distributed titles in December 2025. Those are company-reported milestones at specific dates, not a live catalog count. HAMSTER’s news and announcements
