There is no verified AMD GPU equivalent to the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo says the console uses a custom NVIDIA processor, and its graphics performance cannot be mapped directly to a desktop card. An RX 560 has been suggested as a rough comparison for docked play, but that is a low-confidence estimate—not a tested performance match.
What GPU does the Nintendo Switch 2 use?
Nintendo’s official specifications identify the console’s CPU/GPU as a “Custom processor made by NVIDIA.” The company does not name an AMD component or provide a direct desktop-GPU equivalent. Nintendo’s Switch 2 specifications

Technical reporting by Digital Foundry identifies the GPU architecture as NVIDIA Ampere, with 1,536 CUDA cores. It reports GPU clocks of 561 MHz in handheld mode and 1,007 MHz in docked mode, as well as DLSS support. These details come from Digital Foundry’s technical reporting, not Nintendo’s public specification page. Digital Foundry’s confirmed-specs coverage

Is the Radeon RX 560 an equivalent?
The RX 560 is a tentative point of comparison, not an established equivalent. A Yahoo Tech result for this exact comparison suggests it may be a closer desktop match for docked play, but controlled game testing against the Switch 2 was not located. Treat the suggestion as a rough estimate, not a promise that the two deliver similar frame rates or image quality. Yahoo Tech’s comparison result

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
Tom’s Hardware instead compares the Switch 2’s Ampere GPU to NVIDIA’s mobile RTX 2050, noting that the Switch 2 has fewer CUDA cores (1,536 versus 2,048) and lower clocks. That is an editorial comparison to NVIDIA hardware, not evidence that an AMD card performs equivalently. Tom’s Hardware, May 14, 2025
Why a desktop-card comparison is difficult
Handheld and docked modes differ
The reported GPU clock changes from 561 MHz handheld to 1,007 MHz docked. A comparison that treats the Switch 2 as having one fixed performance level misses that mode difference.

Output resolution is not the same as render resolution
Nintendo lists maximum output of 1920 × 1080 in handheld and tabletop modes. In TV mode, it lists up to 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps, or 120 fps at selected 1920 × 1080 and 2560 × 1440 resolutions. These are output specifications; they do not mean every game renders internally at those resolutions. Nintendo’s Switch 2 specifications

DLSS can affect the image a game produces from its underlying render resolution, while console games are developed for a fixed hardware configuration. Desktop GPU comparisons depend on the game, settings, resolution, and whether an upscaler is enabled. Core counts or theoretical throughput alone therefore cannot establish equivalent real-world performance.

What to conclude if you are comparing performance
- For a simple answer: no AMD card is confirmed as equivalent to the Switch 2.
- For a rough docked-mode reference: the RX 560 has been suggested, but confidence is low and performance parity has not been demonstrated.
- For a meaningful comparison: look for tests of the same games at comparable output resolutions and settings, and distinguish handheld from docked Switch 2 results. The available evidence does not establish a definitive AMD tier match.
