Before traveling to a replacement polling location, confirm its address and election-day arrangements with your state or local election office. Then check the entire route—from arrival to the voting station—not just whether the building has a ramp. You should also ask about accessible voting equipment, privacy, assistance, service animals and what to do if you cannot enter.
Start by confirming the replacement location
Polling places and available voting options depend on the election and jurisdiction. Contact your local election office to confirm the replacement address, hours, accessible entrance and any accommodations you need. Ask whether the features you depend on will be in place and working on election day.
Federal law generally requires accessible polling places for federal elections, subject to statutory exceptions. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) says election officials should select an accessible site or use temporary measures to address barriers; if those measures cannot work, officials must identify an accessible alternative. See DOJ guidance on voting and polling places and 52 U.S.C. § 20102.
Check the full route from arrival to the voting area
Accessibility depends on a continuous, usable route. A parking space or ramp alone does not establish that a voter can reach and use the voting area. Ask the election office about each part of the trip:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Getting there: Is there an accessible route from accessible parking, passenger drop-off, nearby sidewalks and public transportation stops? Ask about surfaces, changes in level, curb ramps and wayfinding.
- Parking and entrance: If parking is provided, are accessible spaces and access aisles available? Can a person using a mobility device reach and use the entrance and doors? A buzzer or a door held open does not fix a doorway that is too narrow.
- Interior route: Can voters get from the entrance to registration and the voting area without blocked paths, hazardous protruding objects or inaccessible stairs? Ask about handrails where needed.
USAGov summarizes features including wheelchair-accessible voting booths, doorways and entrances 32 inches wide, stair handrails, and equipment for voters who are blind or visually impaired. That short list is not a complete site inspection: for a fuller facility assessment, DOJ provides an ADA Checklist for Polling Places.
Ask about voting equipment, privacy and assistance
Ask whether accessible voting equipment will be available and functional, including equipment suited to blind or visually impaired voters. Also ask whether the accessible station allows you to mark your ballot privately and independently, with privacy comparable to the other voting area.

DOJ explains voter protections and assistance in its guidance on the ADA and other federal laws protecting voters with disabilities.
If you cannot enter: ask how curbside voting works
Curbside voting is a contingency for limited circumstances, not a universal substitute for an accessible polling place. DOJ says it may be used when an accessible place cannot be identified or created. If you may need it, ask the election office in advance:

DOJ’s curbside voting guidance describes these operational features. Procedures vary by jurisdiction, so confirm the local process rather than assuming curbside voting will be available or work the same everywhere.
Compare other voting options without assuming they are equivalent
If the site presents an access barrier, ask the election office what alternatives are available and how to use them. Where offered, compare accessible in-person voting, curbside voting and absentee or mail voting by these practical questions:

Check the route to the drop box and whether the box itself is usable; polling-place access does not establish drop-box access. DOJ publishes a separate ballot drop box accessibility guide. A drop box should not be assumed to be an equivalent replacement for an accessible in-person polling place.

When a temporary fix may—and may not—be enough
Election officials may address some barriers with temporary measures, such as marking accessible parking, installing a temporary curb ramp, placing barriers below protruding objects or providing an alert device so a voter can request help opening a door. These are election-administration measures; do not assume that bringing your own ramp, buzzer or magnifier will resolve a site’s access problem. DOJ’s ADA Checklist for Polling Places includes the historical finding that 73% of polling places used in 2008 had architectural barriers that made it difficult or impossible for people with disabilities to enter and vote alongside their neighbors. That figure describes 2008, not current polling places.
