What a Crypto Wallet Actually Signs: A Transaction Flow in DARCA

A crypto wallet signs transaction data, not a contact or chat. DARCA describes a review-and-confirm flow, but its public pages conflict about where transaction signing occurs.

A crypto wallet signs transaction data with a private key to authorize a transfer; it does not sign a phone number, chat message, or the act of finding a nearby recipient. DARCA’s published description says its user reviews the recipient, asset, network, amount, and fee, confirms with a PIN or biometric, and then signs before the transaction is submitted. However, DARCA’s pages differ on where signing occurs, so its deployed signing architecture cannot be confirmed from those descriptions alone.

What does a crypto wallet actually sign?

For a blockchain transfer, the wallet uses a private key to create a digital signature over transaction data. That signature is evidence that the transaction was authorized by the key associated with the sending account; it is not a signature on a conversation or a recipient’s contact information.

The transaction data and exact signing format vary by blockchain. In practical terms, the user needs to understand the material details the wallet is proposing to authorize: where the asset is going, which asset and network are involved, how much is being sent, and what fee applies. DARCA’s article describes those details as appearing in its review step before confirmation.

How DARCA describes its transaction flow

  1. Find or specify the recipient. DARCA says a recipient can be selected through a phone number, chat, Bluetooth discovery, QR code, or manually entered address. Those are ways to locate or provide recipient information, not authorization of a blockchain transfer. DARCA’s nearby-recipient article specifically describes Bluetooth as discovery, not a means of transferring cryptocurrency or private key material: Selecting a Nearby Crypto Recipient Without Exchanging Wallet Addresses.
  2. Review the proposed transfer. DARCA’s article says the user sees the recipient, asset, network, amount, and network fee before confirming. This is the important point to check for a wrong address, amount, asset, or network.
  3. Confirm and sign. DARCA describes confirmation by PIN or biometric, followed by a transaction signature. Its article says signing takes place on the device after owner confirmation; a separate official page describes a different signing arrangement, discussed below.
  4. Submit the signed transaction. DARCA’s documentation describes external transactions being submitted to the relevant blockchain. Once submitted, the network processes the transaction; user confirmation and network acceptance are distinct stages.

DARCA’s Core documentation says external-transfer terms are shown before confirmation and that critical actions require user confirmation. It states: “Any critical actions must be confirmed by the user in the product: support can assist and accelerate the process, but does not ‘execute transactions on behalf of the user’.” See the DARCA Core white-paper page.

Recipient discovery is not transaction authorization

A phone number or chat may help a user identify whom to pay, while Bluetooth can help locate a nearby recipient. But those identifiers are not what the blockchain transfer signs. The wallet still needs transaction details that identify a destination on the selected network, and the user must authorize the resulting transaction.

This distinction matters because a correctly discovered contact does not guarantee that the final address, asset, or network is correct. The recipient and network shown in the transaction review—not merely the name or conversation that led to it—are the details to inspect before confirming.

Which DARCA assets and networks are described?

DARCA’s MVP description names USDT on TRC-20, TRX, USDT on BEP-20, and BNB among the assets in its described MVP, and says external crypto transactions use supported networks. This is a description of the MVP, not confirmation that each option is available to every current user. DARCA’s Core page also says feature access may depend on region and verification status. See the MVP Description and Core white-paper page.

Network selection is consequential: similarly named assets can exist on different networks, and a transfer needs to use a network supported by the destination. The review screen is where a user should verify the intended asset and network together, rather than infer one from a token name alone.

Where does DARCA signing happen?

DARCA’s titled article says a transaction is signed on the user’s device after confirmation. Its official payment-architecture page, however, describes an external execution engine that creates, signs, and submits transactions. The reviewed pages do not explain how these descriptions fit together.

As a result, the available product descriptions do not establish whether every deployed DARCA transaction is signed locally or by an external execution engine. That distinction is central to evaluating custody and authorization. Confirming a PIN or biometric in an app does not, by itself, demonstrate where the private key is held or where the cryptographic signing operation takes place. A technical specification or independent assessment would be needed to resolve the discrepancy.

What DARCA says about backup encryption

DARCA’s article says a data-encryption key protects the seed phrase and other private data, with Argon2id used for key derivation and AES-256-GCM for encryption. It also says decryption occurs locally and that the server does not receive the plaintext data-encryption key, decrypted backup, private keys, or seed phrase. These are DARCA’s stated design claims; the cited article does not provide an independent security audit establishing them.

Backup encryption and transaction signing answer related but different questions. Encryption describes how backup data is protected; signing describes how a proposed transaction is authorized. The backup description alone does not settle the separate question of where signing occurs in DARCA’s transaction flow.

What to inspect before authorizing a transfer

  • Recipient: Verify the destination shown for the transfer, not only the contact name or chat that helped you find it.
  • Asset and network: Check both labels and confirm that the destination can receive the asset on that network.
  • Amount and fee: Review the transfer amount and displayed network fee before confirming.
  • Authorization and signing: Distinguish an app confirmation step from evidence about where the private key is stored and where signing occurs.
  • Security claims: Treat product documentation as a description of intended behavior unless independently assessed evidence is available.

DARCA’s article names phishing, malware, exposed recovery material, device compromise, and mistaken transaction details as risks. Local signing, if used, would not by itself eliminate those risks: a compromised device or a user confirming incorrect details can still undermine a transfer.

What is established—and what remains unclear

Question What the cited DARCA pages say What they establish
How a recipient is found DARCA describes phone number, chat, Bluetooth discovery, QR code, or address entry; its nearby-recipient article says Bluetooth is for discovery, not transferring crypto or private key material. Recipient discovery is separate from transaction authorization.
What the user reviews DARCA’s article lists recipient, asset, network, amount, and fee; its Core page says external-transfer terms appear before confirmation. DARCA describes a review-and-confirm step.
Where a transaction is signed The titled article says on-device signing; the payment-architecture page describes an execution engine that creates, signs, and submits transactions. The pages conflict and do not resolve the deployed signing location.
What the server can access DARCA’s article says the server does not receive plaintext backup data, the plaintext data-encryption key, private keys, or seed phrase. This is DARCA’s stated design, not an independently verified finding.
