Web Hosting Statistics and Market Share Report for 2026

W3Techs’ 3 October 2026 snapshot puts Shopify, Hostinger, Amazon and Wix at the top by website usage. Netcraft’s June figures measure web-server software, not provider share.

In W3Techs’ snapshot dated 3 October 2026, Shopify leads its web-hosting-provider category at 5.4% of websites, followed by Hostinger at 5.1%, Amazon at 4.5% and Wix at 4.2%. These are website-usage shares—not hosting revenue shares, paid-customer counts or ratings of service quality. Netcraft’s June 2026 figures measure web-server software across separate populations, so they belong in a different comparison.

What the 2026 provider figures measure

W3Techs describes its chart as the percentage of websites using each web hosting provider. Its page says the reports are updated daily; the figures below are the snapshot shown on 3 October 2026. W3Techs defines a hosting provider as the website owner’s direct infrastructure partner. It distinguishes that role from the data-center provider supplying hardware and networking, and places reverse-proxy and content-delivery-network (CDN) services in separate categories because they typically do not provide hosting services. W3Techs says it groups brands owned by the same entity to represent what it calls the “real relevant market shares.” It also says its hosting information is partly based on data provided by ipinfo.io. Those are descriptions of W3Techs’ own methodology, not independent validation of the estimates.

Most-used providers in W3Techs’ 3 October snapshot

Provider grouping Share of websites
Shopify 5.4%
Hostinger 5.1%
Amazon 4.5%
Wix 4.2%
United Internet 2.5%
GoDaddy Group 2.5%
Squarespace 2.5%
OVH 2.4%
Newfold Digital Group 2.4%
team.blue 2.2%
Hetzner 2.1%
Vercel 2.1%
SiteGround 2.0%

All percentages in the table are W3Techs’ website-level provider usage figures from its 3 October 2026 snapshot. They are not percentages of hosting-industry revenue or of provider accounts. The ranking should be read as a measure of detected website usage within W3Techs’ category and methodology.

Netcraft’s web-server figures are a different measure

Netcraft’s June 2026 Web Server Survey reported responses from 1,489,396,284 sites across 304,146,307 domains and 14,653,771 web-facing computers. Compared with the prior month, Netcraft reported increases of 21.1 million sites, 2.0 million domains and 81,854 web-facing computers. These are survey population counts, not counts of hosting customers. Netcraft says its monthly survey has tracked internet technologies since 1995 and covers web-server market share, hosting trends, domain growth and changes across the web ecosystem. Netcraft Web Server Survey, June 2026.

The server-software shares differ depending on the population counted:

Netcraft June 2026 population Reported web-server software shares
All sites nginx 21.10%; Cloudflare 16.20%; Apache 11.56%; Google 5.43%
Active sites Cloudflare 22.34%; nginx 15.62%; Apache 12.17%; Google 10.53%
Top million busiest sites Cloudflare 27.90%; nginx 19.37%; Apache 15.60%; LiteSpeed 3.88%
Web-facing computers nginx 43.45%; Apache 19.34%
Domains nginx 17.79%; Apache 15.75%; Cloudflare 13.55%; OpenResty 4.97%

For example, Cloudflare’s 27.90% figure applies to web-server software among the top million busiest sites in Netcraft’s June 2026 survey. It is not Cloudflare’s share of hosting providers. The figures cannot be merged with W3Techs’ provider percentages: the categories, observation units and sampling populations differ.

What these statistics cannot establish

  • Industry revenue: Neither W3Techs’ provider chart nor Netcraft’s survey establishes total global web-hosting revenue for 2026. Website usage is not a substitute for a revenue measure.
  • Provider quality: The rankings do not establish uptime, speed, support quality, security, price or value. No comparative service-quality testing is represented by these figures.
  • The right host for a particular site: A provider’s prevalence does not show whether its plans, features or supported regions suit an individual project. Selection requires current plan and service information beyond adoption statistics.
