A success message from a scheduling or publishing tool shows that the tool accepted a request. It does not show that each platform published each post with its image attached. If you cannot produce a receipt for a specific post on a specific platform, that post is unverified until you check the live account. This guide explains how to rebuild the evidence for a week of posts, how to check the live results, and how to retry without creating duplicates.
Why a success response is not proof of delivery
Publishing pipelines usually report progress in stages, and the top-level status often describes only the earliest one. Product documentation from several publishing APIs makes this distinction explicit. Postproxy’s documentation, for example, describes a post state of processed that can mean the post was handed to the publishing pipeline, not that every destination accepted it. Swonkie’s guidance says publishing can be asynchronous, so an initial response may mean that work has started, and it recommends polling the post status until completion.

Three situations commonly produce a green status with missing content:
- Asynchronous completion. The request was accepted, but the platform attempt happened later and may have failed.
- Separate media handling. The image was uploaded or processed by the tool, and the platform later rejected or dropped it. Media processing and post publishing are independent checks.
- Partial multi-destination results. One account succeeded and another failed, or a thread’s parent post published while a later segment did not.
The five stages every post passes through
Keep these stages separate in your records. Each one answers a different question, and each leaves different evidence.

Only the last row proves delivery to the audience. Everything above it explains how far the request got.
What a usable receipt contains
A receipt is only useful if it is specific to one destination. Record the following for every post and every platform:

- Target platform and account handle
- Status for that destination, not only for the post as a whole
- Platform post ID or permalink
- Attempt time, with time zone
- Media status and any platform-specific media error
- Error detail, copied verbatim
Some tools expose these fields directly. Others return only a post-level status, and Swonkie’s guide notes that its API response does not return the published post URLs. In that case the platform account itself becomes your only source of truth.

Reconstructing the week
- Build an inventory. List every post in the week, its image file, the intended account or platform, the scheduled or attempted time, and the tool used.
- Pull per-platform records from each tool. Use an export or API call where one exists. Where it does not, use the tool’s history view and capture screenshots with visible dates.
- Match records to the inventory. Use a stable key such as the tool’s post ID together with the scheduled time. Do not match on post text alone, because reposted or edited copy creates false matches.
- Check every segment. For threads, carousels, and multi-image posts, verify each item, not only the parent record.
- Search the live account for records without a permalink. Filter the destination account by date and compare the text and image against your inventory.
- Classify each result. Mark it delivered, failed, partial, or uncertain, and state the evidence behind each label.
Checking the live post
A post can exist on a platform while its image is missing, broken, or cropped in a way that hides the content. Check the following on the live account:

- The post exists, with the expected date and text.
- The image loads in the open post, not only as a feed thumbnail.
- The image matches the file in your inventory.
- The post is not in a draft, hidden, or limited state that other viewers cannot see.
If a post has been deleted or the account is private, record that as the result. Do not infer delivery from the absence of an error.
Handling uncertain results before retrying
An ambiguous error is not the same as a failed post. BarretApi’s documentation describes provider failures that may need review because the remote provider could already have accepted the post. Retrying in that situation can publish a duplicate.

- Check the live account first. Confirm whether the post exists before sending anything again.
- Retry only confirmed absences. OpenPost describes per-channel retry behavior, which lets you retry the destinations that failed without resending the ones that succeeded. Confirm that your tool works the same way before relying on it.
- Record the reconciliation. Note what you checked, when, and what you found. If you could not resolve a post, keep it marked uncertain.
Image-specific checks
When the image is the question, check it against the actual file and the target platform, not a general rule. File type, count, and size limits vary by platform and can differ between a tool’s upload endpoint and the destination itself. BarretApi’s documentation, for example, lists limits that apply only to its own upload endpoint. Use the destination’s current specifications, and treat any tool-side limit as a separate gate.
Keep the original file. If a platform reports a media error, read the error text and compare it with the file you uploaded. Re-exporting or re-compressing an image changes what you are verifying.

What to look for in a publishing tool
If you are choosing or auditing a tool, check whether it provides these six capabilities:
- Per-platform status, not only a post-level status
- Media-processing status and specific media errors
- Platform post IDs or permalinks
- Retained attempt and delivery history
- A way to record externally verified delivery, such as a manual confirmation against the live account
- Retries that skip platforms already confirmed successful
These criteria come from the way the documentation of several publishing products describes its status models. They are not a ranking of vendors, and product names, fields, and guarantees differ. Do not assume that a feature described for one platform or product applies to every social network or publishing service.
Reporting a week you cannot verify
If the logs for a past week are incomplete, report what you can prove. Split the inventory into three groups: posts with a per-platform receipt, posts confirmed on the live account, and posts with no evidence either way. Describe the last group as unverified. Do not describe the whole week as delivered, and do not repost to fill gaps until you have checked the live accounts for each one.
