Waze lets you limit ad personalization, hide your profile from other map users, and manage saved navigation activity. These controls do different jobs: turning one off does not stop all data collection. Find them on your phone under Menu > Settings > Privacy. If you are using Android Auto or CarPlay, disconnect the phone first. Labels may vary as the app changes.
What each Waze privacy control changes

1. Turn off personalized ads
Open Menu > Settings > Privacy and switch off ad personalization. This changes how Waze personalizes ads; it is not an ad blocker. The policy says ads may still be based on current Waze activity and contextual details such as approximate location, general route path, destination type, and information from the current drive session. 2. Use Invisible Mode to hide your map profile
In Menu > Settings > Privacy, choose Go invisible. This hides your username and other profile details from appearing on the map to other Waze users. It does not stop Waze from collecting location or route information described in its privacy policy, and it does not delete your account. Waze Help and Waze Privacy Policy

Open Menu > Settings > Privacy > Navigation history to review saved drives. Waze lets you remove an individual drive or clear the history. Its help page says history is automatically deleted after a few months, without specifying a single universal duration. It also says drives you delete will not be used to personalize ETAs. Deleting history is not the same as deleting all data associated with your account. Waze says account deletion removes saved places and navigation history, but retains contributions such as map edits and statistical drive data in a form no longer linked to the account. In Waze Help’s words: “Information you’ve contributed to Waze (like map edits and statistical drive data) won’t be removed, but it will no longer be linked to you.” Waze Help: Adjust your Waze Privacy controls
4. Remove Recent locations separately
Waze saves locations used to start navigation or check an ETA as recent locations. Find their management control in Menu > Settings > Privacy and remove entries you do not want kept there. Because this control is separate from Navigation history, review both if you want to manage both types of saved activity. Waze Help

Check your phone’s background location permission
Waze’s Privacy Policy says location and travel information may be collected when the app is not in use, depending on device and account settings. It describes features such as planned-drive reminders, local traffic notifications, and parking assistance. To limit location access while the app is not in use, review Waze’s location permission in Android or iOS settings. The exact path depends on your device and operating-system version. The policy also describes collection of GPS and sensor data, timestamps, IP address and route information, account details such as saved Home and Work locations, favorites and destinations, and app-use metadata. It describes sharing de-identified information with Google mapping and navigation services to improve products, as well as sharing information with Google advertising technology for advertising and measurement. Keep ETA personalization separate from ad personalization
Waze has a separate personalized-navigation control. Its help page says personalized ETAs use past drives and can be turned off under Menu > Settings > Navigation > Personalization. Turning off ad personalization is not the same as changing ETA personalization; deleting a drive from Navigation history also means that drive will not be used to personalize ETAs.
