If you want Android Auto navigation with more transparent privacy choices than Waze, start by comparing Magic Earth and OsmAnd; Sygic is another confirmed Android Auto option, but the available documentation here does not establish it as privacy-first. HERE WeGo’s privacy disclosures are available, but its current Android Auto support is not confirmed by the official sources cited below. So this is a comparison of three verified options—not a claim that all four apps avoid collecting location data.
What Waze’s privacy disclosures mean
Waze’s policy says the app collects detailed location, travel and route information. It describes combining GPS and other sensor data with timestamps, IP addresses and device information to provide navigation, route selection, traffic alerts and nearby-place information. You can adjust controls under Settings → Privacy. If Waze is connected to Android Auto or CarPlay, its help page says to disconnect the phone before changing those settings. Which app fits your priorities?
Magic Earth: a privacy-focused candidate to investigate first
Magic Earth is the clearest starting point in this comparison if you want an app whose publisher explicitly emphasizes privacy and whose FAQ confirms phone-based Android Auto support. Check that your vehicle is compatible, your phone runs Android 9 or newer, and you have activated the subscription. If live traffic matters, note that Magic Earth identifies it as a Premium feature and says availability varies by region.
Keep its Android Auto app distinct from its Android Automotive OS release. Android Auto projects a phone app to a compatible car display; Android Automotive OS runs apps on a vehicle’s built-in operating system. The company’s August 19, 2026 announcement describes the latter as a car-native app with turn-by-turn guidance, offline maps and live traffic when connected. Magic Lane’s Head of Product, Tim Urlings, said, “Drivers shouldn’t have to hand over their location history to get a great navigation experience in their car.” The announcement also presents “We map your route, not your data” as Magic Earth’s principle. Both are company statements, not independent findings about data practices.

OsmAnd: configurable offline navigation, with paid Android Auto access
Consider OsmAnd if offline navigation and configurable settings matter more to you than a polished, feature-complete car interface. Its Android Auto feature is paid and, according to its documentation, available only in the Google Play version. The car interface is simplified, so do not assume every phone feature will appear on the dashboard.
OsmAnd’s Android global settings include controls for sharing in-app activity and identifiers and an option to disable user-data collection. Treat those as specific user controls, not as proof of zero collection or an independent privacy certification.

Sygic: confirmed compatibility, but no privacy-first finding here
Sygic is a viable feature-comparison option if its Android Auto support and paid-feature terms suit you. Its support page says the car interface has limits and that premium Android Auto features require eligible Premium+ access or a prior lifetime Premium license. The cited documentation does not support recommending Sygic as a privacy-first replacement; consult its current privacy policy before choosing it on that basis.
What about HERE WeGo?
HERE’s privacy supplement says location data may be sent to HERE when location-enabled features such as navigation are used, and describes collection of technical device details. Its support page explains how to request deletion of collected personal data. The official sources available for this comparison do not confirm current Android Auto compatibility, so verify support for your region and app version before relying on HERE WeGo for this setup.

How to choose without treating privacy as a label
- For a stated privacy focus: investigate Magic Earth first, then check subscription activation and whether Premium live traffic covers your region.
- For offline navigation and settings control: compare OsmAnd, bearing in mind its paid Google Play Android Auto requirement and simplified car interface.
- For another documented Android Auto option: evaluate Sygic’s feature access and read its current privacy policy rather than assuming it collects less than Waze.
- For HERE WeGo: review its disclosures and confirm Android Auto support before depending on it.
Offline maps or a privacy setting alone do not show what an app processes when connected. Compare the publisher’s stated collection, available controls and the functions you intend to use; the cited material does not provide a consistent independent privacy or navigation-performance test across these apps.
