To connect Walter Writes AI to Claude Code, add Walter’s hosted MCP endpoint as a remote HTTP server, open /mcp inside Claude Code, authenticate with your Walter Writes AI account in the browser, and confirm the connector shows as connected and authenticated. The whole process takes a few minutes, but the last step matters most: adding the server only registers it. The connection is confirmed only after sign-in succeeds.
The steps below follow Walter’s published setup instructions and Claude Code’s MCP reference, both checked on 7 October 2026. Claude Code’s CLI changes between releases, so if a prompt or menu label differs on your machine, follow the current documentation linked at the end.

Step-by-step setup
-
Open a terminal and register the server with this command:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.claude mcp add walter-writes https://mcp-server.walterwrites.ai/mcp -t httpThe
-t httpflag sets the transport to HTTP, which Claude Code recommends for remote MCP servers. The longer spelling,--transport http, is equivalent in Claude Code’s reference. Walter’s own instructions use the shorter form. -
Start Claude Code in the project directory where you want to use the connector, then type
/mcp. -
In the server list, select walter-writes and choose Authenticate.
-
A browser window opens. Sign in to your Walter Writes AI account, then return to Claude Code.

Run
/mcpagain and confirm that walter-writes shows as connected and authenticated.
Choose a configuration scope before you add the server
The scope controls where Claude Code makes the server configuration available. Local is the default for claude mcp add, so if you do nothing, the server applies only to the project you are working in. Add --scope to change that:
claude mcp add walter-writes https://mcp-server.walterwrites.ai/mcp -t http --scope user
claude mcp add walter-writes https://mcp-server.walterwrites.ai/mcp -t http --scope project
| Scope | Where the connector is available | Where the configuration is stored | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local (default) | One project | Not stated in the Claude Code reference consulted | You want Walter available in a single project and nowhere else |
User (--scope user) |
You, across all of your projects | Not stated in the reference consulted | You personally write in several repositories and want one setup |
Project (--scope project) |
Everyone who opens the repository | Project configuration, which may be stored in .mcp.json |
You are configuring a shared repository for teammates |
Two points follow from the project scope. First, a project-scoped server requires approval, and each person should review the server definition and trust the source before connecting. Second, a shared server definition does not share credentials or account access. Each teammate signs in with their own Walter Writes AI account through the same /mcp flow.

Verify the connection
Registration and connection are separate states, so check both. Claude Code’s MCP reference documents three commands and indicators for this:
claude mcp listshows the servers Claude Code has registered.claude mcp get walter-writesshows the configuration and status detail for this server./mcpinside a session shows the live state, which Claude Code reports as connected, needs authentication, or failed connection.
A healthy setup reads as connected and authenticated in /mcp. Anything else means the job is not finished.

Troubleshooting
- Status still says needs authentication. The browser sign-in did not complete. Return to
/mcp, select walter-writes, and choose Authenticate again. - Authentication completes but the status shows failed connection. Run
claude mcp get walter-writesand read the status detail. Walter’s and Claude Code’s current documentation are the authoritative guides for the failure; do not assume that the earlierclaude mcp addcommand proves the connection works. - Walter does not appear for a teammate. Confirm the repository configuration was committed, then have the teammate approve the project server and authenticate with their own account.
- The commands or menu labels differ. Claude Code’s CLI is version-sensitive. Check the installed version’s documentation before assuming the setup is wrong.
What the integration is for
Walter describes the connector as bringing text humanization and AI detection into Claude Code. That capability description comes from Walter’s setup page, which is the vendor’s own account of the product. The setup page does not establish comparative accuracy, writing quality, detection guarantees, or account-plan limits, so check those with Walter directly before relying on them.
Walter’s setup page uses the phrase “Connect Walter Writes AI to Claude Code via MCP,” which is a useful search phrase if you are looking for the same instructions.
