VsTerm is a cross-platform desktop SSH client that brings terminal tabs, SFTP file work, and network and host information panels into one interface. That integrated workflow is its main appeal for developers and administrators who want to manage remote sessions without switching among separate tools. The features described here come from VsTerm’s own product materials, not independent hands-on testing.
What VsTerm brings together
The vendor describes VsTerm as a native Rust application with a graphical interface built using egui/eframe and wgpu, an Alacritty-based terminal, and SSH via russh. Its central workflow is a shell session alongside remote file operations and related tools. The project says the terminal PTY, remote commands, and SFTP share one authenticated session. - Terminal sessions: tabbed SSH shells with YAML-based configuration.
- Remote files: an integrated SFTP pane, elevated SFTP, terminal-to-file path synchronization, and ZMODEM transfers using
rzandsz. The vendor says transfer progress and queues are visible in the app. - Operations panels: route and connection views, path tracing with geo/ASN information, IP quality checks, system information, and live host metrics.
These features may suit someone who routinely moves between a shell, remote files, and basic host or network checks. The materials establish that the functions are offered; they do not establish that VsTerm is more accurate, secure, or faster than another SSH client.

The official site lists Windows, macOS, and Linux, with packages available through GitHub Releases. VsTerm says its current packages are not Microsoft- or Apple-notarized. As a result, an operating system may show a security warning when you open the app. Follow the current platform-specific instructions on the official VsTerm site rather than treating a generic bypass command as appropriate for every system.

Moving existing SSH setups into VsTerm
The README lists import support for WindTerm, Xshell, FinalShell, MobaXterm, Tabby, OpenSSH configuration, and SecureCRT. Importing can bring over host and group information, but it does not transfer encrypted passwords. Private-key file paths may be retained; named keys stored inside some source applications are not automatically resolved. Review imported connections and authenticate them again as needed. Offline use, cloud sync, and security claims
VsTerm says local SSH use works offline and that Personal Cloud sync is optional. Its project materials describe an encrypted local vault and client-side encryption for synced data: AES-256-GCM objects, with a key derived from the master password using Argon2id. The README also describes Ed25519 device identity, with the private key kept in the operating system keyring, and says the server stores ciphertext. The site states that the operator and servers are in the United States. These are vendor descriptions; they are not a substitute for an independent code review, security audit, threat model, or jurisdictional assessment. Project README Official VsTerm site

Standard and Pro: features and current listed prices
As listed on the official site on October 4, 2026, Standard is free, Pro annual is USD $9.90 per year, and Pro lifetime is USD $29.90. The page describes annual billing as auto-renewing, says it can be canceled, offers a 14-day refund period, and identifies Paddle as seller of record; applicable taxes are calculated at checkout. Prices and terms can change, so check the live page before purchasing. Official VsTerm site
| Plan | Listed price (USD, checked October 4, 2026) | What the official page says |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Free | Local SSH, SFTP, ZMODEM, operations panels, and encrypted local vault. |
| Pro annual | $9.90 per year | Includes the listed local features; adds higher scrollback capacity, more desk-pet options, and cloud sync for sessions, commands, layouts, preferences, and credentials. |
| Pro lifetime | $29.90 | Pro lifetime option; the site lists the same Pro additions. |
The repository separately describes Standard as capped at 100,000 lines of terminal scrollback and Pro at 500,000 lines. However, the changelog says v1.3.3 added per-terminal memory budgets of 32, 64, 128, 256, or 512 MiB, with 64 MiB as the default, or unlimited for the prior behavior. Because these descriptions span different materials and versions, verify the current scrollback behavior in the app rather than assuming those line counts apply universally. Version labels and project license
The public version markers do not agree: the README feature heading says v1.1.13, the site displays v1.2.2, and the latest dated changelog entry in the reviewed materials is v1.3.4, dated September 22, 2026. That makes v1.3.4 the latest dated changelog entry found, not independently confirmed live release metadata. Check the release page for the package you intend to install. Who is likely to find VsTerm useful?
VsTerm is most relevant to people whose regular SSH routine involves more than opening a shell: transferring files, using ZMODEM, checking routes or host metrics, or importing existing connection lists. Its combined interface may reduce context switching, but whether that is an advantage depends on the tools and habits you already use.

- Consider it if a desktop SSH workflow with integrated SFTP and operations panels matches your day-to-day tasks.
- Check before adopting it if you depend on encrypted-password import, a named key managed inside another client, a particular scrollback limit, or a notarized installer.
- Assess the security claims independently if your organization requires an audit, specific data residency, or formal approval of cloud synchronization.
