What the extension claim does—and does not—establish
The title describes an extension that copies a project into free chatbot services and applies returned diffs. It does not name the extension, link to its repository or documentation, or identify supported chatbot sites. Without those details, its publisher, supported VS Code versions, file-selection rules, privacy behavior, and patch-application process cannot be verified. Treat “one click” as an unverified product claim, not a guarantee that changes are previewed, correct, or safe.

There are two distinct steps in this workflow: sending project content to an external service and writing generated changes back to local files. Confirm what a specific extension copies and what its apply action does before relying on either step.

VS Code documents ways to provide context to its own Chat experience. You can add files, folders, symbols, tools, terminal output, or source-control changes with context mentions or the context picker; drag files or folders from Explorer, Search, or editor tabs into Chat; or use #codebase to refer to the codebase. This is a native-chat workflow, not evidence that an arbitrary chatbot website can receive project context automatically or apply its output in VS Code. For IDE-integrated Copilot questions, GitHub also documents chat in the IDE. Its Marketplace listing describes a Free plan and features including chat, edits, and agent mode; check the current listing and terms because access, quotas, and feature availability can change: GitHub Copilot on the Visual Studio Marketplace.
Protect workspace data before sharing it
Project context may include more than the source files you intended to send. Microsoft’s VS Code security guidance states: “File contents, terminal output, and diagnostic information from your workspace are sent as context to language models and tools.” Read Secure AI-assisted development in VS Code before sharing workspace content.

- Check which files, folders, terminal output, and diagnostics will be included. Do not assume an extension excludes ignored files, secrets, or configuration files unless its documentation says so.
- Remove or protect credentials and other sensitive material before providing context. Check the selected chatbot service’s current privacy terms; a free tier alone does not establish how prompts or code are retained or used.
- Open unfamiliar projects in Restricted Mode and use Workspace Trust. Microsoft’s built-in tool protections should not be assumed to apply to third-party extensions.
Review a returned diff before accepting it
A “diff” shows proposed changes relative to existing files; applying one may write changes to disk. The phrase “one click” does not tell you whether the extension opens a preview, writes immediately, stages files, or commits them. Verify that behavior in the extension’s own documentation before using it.
- Inspect the changed file list. Confirm that each file belongs to the requested task.
- Review the diff for scope, unintended edits, and changes that could expose data or break project behavior.
- Use VS Code’s diff review and keep or undo controls where available. Microsoft explains this workflow in Review and revert agent changes.
- Run appropriate checks for the project, then inspect the final changes before committing, merging, or opening a pull request. Automatically accepted edits still need review.
How to assess a specific extension
Before installing or trusting an extension that promises project transfer and one-click diff application, look for documentation that answers these concrete questions:

- Who publishes it, where is its source repository, and which VS Code versions does it support?
- Exactly which workspace content is copied, and are ignored files, secrets, or other sensitive paths excluded?
- Does it only place data on the clipboard, or does it transmit information elsewhere?
- Which chatbot sites are supported, and what are those services’ current privacy terms?
- Does applying a diff show a preview, write directly to files, stage changes, or commit them?
- Can you reject or undo individual changes, and what happens when a patch does not apply cleanly?
Until those details are documented for a named extension, the feature claim is not enough to recommend a particular tool or promise a specific workflow.
