For streaming to YouTube Live, choose vMix Basic HD or a higher edition—not the legacy/free Basic license. vMix documents YouTube Live output through its built-in RTMP streaming workflow. That confirms platform support, but it does not guarantee a 24/7 broadcast, a particular maximum duration, or uninterrupted uptime.
Basic and Basic HD are different licenses
The names are easy to mix up. vMix’s Basic Comparison Table describes the legacy free Basic edition; it is not the current paid Basic HD tier. The legacy table does not list streaming as an included feature, so do not assume that free Basic can stream just because Basic HD can.
vMix’s current purchase comparison lists Basic HD as a paid lifetime license. Read the current feature matrix before purchasing, since pricing and product details can change. The vMix User Guide documents built-in RTMP streaming to destinations including YouTube Live; taken together, those official materials make Basic HD the relevant current entry license to assess for YouTube streaming.

Basic HD specifications and its listed price are from vMix’s current purchase comparison, accessed in 2026. The streaming row’s visual marks were not retained in the available text rendering of that comparison, so consult the live official matrix when verifying the exact feature listing.

What “continuous” does—and does not—mean
If by continuous you mean broadcasting live instead of exporting a recording, Basic HD is the relevant vMix tier to consider for YouTube Live. If you mean a specific duration—overnight, 24 hours, or longer—the reviewed license comparison and user guide do not establish a maximum stream length. They also do not promise that a broadcast will remain connected without interruption.
A license that supports streaming is only one part of a working broadcast. YouTube account eligibility and controls, stream settings, the computer’s performance, and network quality also matter. Do not treat the license name as an uptime guarantee.

Check the input limit against your production
Basic HD allows four total inputs, with no more than three camera/NDI/OMT inputs, according to vMix’s input-count documentation. Inputs include loaded items such as videos, images, titles, and cameras—not only physical cameras. The same documentation notes that the PC must be capable of handling the selected inputs, so the license limit alone cannot establish how well a particular computer will perform.
- Count every item you need to load, including titles, graphics, video sources, and cameras.
- Count camera, NDI, and OMT sources against the three-source limit.
- Consider a higher edition if the production needs more than four total inputs, more than three cameras, 4K support, or other features identified in vMix’s edition-selection guide.
If you need to bring an HDMI camera or another HDMI source into the vMix computer, a compatible USB HDMI capture card may be relevant. It is not a requirement for choosing a streaming-capable license: the right connection depends on your source, operating system, computer, and desired resolution and frame rate.

How to decide
- Need a YouTube Live stream from vMix? Assess Basic HD or a higher edition; do not rely on the legacy/free Basic comparison as evidence that streaming is included.
- Need more inputs or production features? Compare your input count and resolution needs with the current vMix edition matrix and selection guide before buying.
- Need a broadcast to run for a particular duration? Verify the full workflow and destination requirements separately. The reviewed vMix materials do not specify a maximum continuous duration or guarantee uninterrupted operation.
