If your Vizio remote has no AV button, it is not necessarily defective. Vizio used different remote layouts for different TV models: some have a dedicated AV button, while others select sources with INPUT or another source button. Press INPUT and choose the source that matches the cable and device connected to your TV. The exact labels and available sources depend on the model.
Why doesn’t my Vizio remote have an AV button?
Vizio remote controls vary by television model. For example, the VA26L HDTV10T manual lists separate TV, AV, COMP, and HDMI buttons, as well as INPUT. It defines AV as a way to select the Audio Video input. By contrast, the XVT423SV/XVT473SV/XVT553SV manual describes selecting inputs by cycling with INPUT.

That difference reflects model-specific control layouts, not proof that your remote is broken. The manuals establish variation between models; they do not establish a universal date when Vizio changed its remotes or a company-wide reason for the change.

How to select AV or another source without an AV button
- Turn on the device you want to use, such as a DVD player or game console.
- Press INPUT on the Vizio remote. If your remote has no INPUT button, check the TV’s physical controls for an input or menu option.
- Move through the available source options and select the one that matches the connection used by your device. Depending on the TV, a source may be labeled AV, AV1, COMP, HDMI, or something else.
- Wait for the picture to appear. If it does not, confirm that the device is on, check that its cables are firmly connected to the TV, and verify that you selected the source for that connection.
On the VA26L HDTV10T, Vizio’s manual says to select an input by pressing INPUT on the remote or the side of the TV. The VF551XVT manual documents a different arrangement for that model: repeated presses of HDMI or COMP cycle through available inputs, and the selected input appears in the on-screen Info box. These examples show why button behavior and source order should be checked against your TV’s manual rather than assumed to be the same across Vizio sets.

What if INPUT is missing or the picture still does not appear?
- No INPUT button: Look for input or menu controls on the TV itself, or find the manual for your exact model through Vizio Support. The manuals do not establish one button combination that works across every Vizio TV.
- Source selected, but no picture: Check the cable at both ends, make sure the connected device is powered on, and try the source that corresponds to the actual cable connection.
- Considering a replacement remote: Find the TV’s full model number and verify compatibility before buying. Vizio’s XRT140R product page describes compatibility with Vizio Smart TVs and Onn powered by Vizio Smart TVs, but does not claim compatibility with every legacy Vizio television. The page reported the remote out of stock when reviewed.
- Looking for another way to switch inputs: Vizio’s XRT270 page describes a voice remote that can switch inputs by voice and mentions a virtual remote in the Vizio Mobile app. Neither option should be assumed to work with your TV until compatibility is confirmed for its model.
