Vivitar cameras do not share one set of video specifications: resolution, sound recording, memory-card support, and controls vary by model. Find the model number on the camera or its label, then check that model’s manual before choosing a card or expecting a particular recording quality.
How to record video on a Vivitar camera
- Identify the model. Check the camera body or label, packaging, or manual. Do not infer its capabilities from the Vivitar name alone.
- Look up the video instructions in that model’s manual. Check how to enter Movie or Video mode and start and stop capture. Controls differ: on the ViviCam 3935, the shutter-style movie button starts and stops recording.
- Confirm the recording settings and limits. Check the available resolution, whether the camera records sound, and whether zoom or flash can be used while filming.
- Fit the required memory card. Match both the card type and capacity to the manual. Some models require removable storage for video or normal use.
- Record a short test clip and play it back. This helps confirm that recording works and that sound is present if the model supports it.
What video quality do Vivitar cameras record?
It depends on the model. The ViviCam 8018 manual lists 640×480 (VGA) and 320×240 (QVGA) video, while the Vivitar 980HD manual listing includes 1920×1080 (FHD) at 30 fps and 1280×720 (HD) modes. These are examples, not a brand-wide specification; consult the manual for the exact camera and its full mode list.

The ViviCam 5024 manual describes AVI movies at VGA or QVGA settings and says higher resolution gives better quality but shorter recording time. That trade-off is specific to that model; the documentation cited here does not establish a universal recording-time figure.

Does a Vivitar camera record sound?
Audio support varies. The ViviCam 3935 manual says its small microphone can record voice with movie clips. Do not assume that another Vivitar camera records audio: check its manual for a microphone or an explicit statement about sound. If a clip plays silently, first verify that the model records voice and that the playback device is handling the clip’s audio; silence alone does not establish a camera fault.

Which memory card does it need?
Use the precise card format and maximum capacity specified for the model. SD and microSD are different form factors, and the limits below apply only to the named cameras.

Follow the workflow documented for your model. The ViviCam S048 manual describes accessing the memory card directly on a computer. If you are choosing between identified Vivitar cameras, compare their manuals rather than assuming that a newer-looking model has the features you need.

- Maximum video resolution and frame rate
- Whether video includes sound
- Video file format
- Memory-card form factor and capacity limit
- Whether zoom or flash works during recording
- How recordings transfer to a computer
For example, the ViviCam 3935 manual says zoom is unavailable in Movie mode and flash cannot be used while recording. Those restrictions should not be applied to other models without checking their documentation.
