You can raise money with a YouTube Live event by pairing a clear program with a donation route viewers can actually use: an eligible channel can attach a YouTube Giving fundraiser, while other creators can direct viewers to a verified external campaign or make a transparent pledge to donate their own video revenue. Choose the event format around your cause and audience; YouTube does not publish evidence that one format reliably raises more than another.
Choose a live event that gives people a reason to stay
These are formats that fit YouTube Live, not proven fundraising rankings. Keep the cause, donation destination, and any creator pledge clear in the event description and during the stream. A donation appeal should not be the only thing happening: give viewers a program to follow.
Creator collaboration stream
Invite creators, community partners, or advocates to share one event, with each person taking a defined segment. If YouTube Giving is available to the channel and organization, YouTube also supports community fundraisers in which participating creators can support the same cause. Check eligibility before announcing that the shared campaign will use YouTube Giving.
Live performance or demonstration
Build the event around original music, art, cooking, crafts, or another demonstration that can be shown live. Use material you created or have permission to use: another creator’s work can trigger copyright claims. Explain how the featured activity connects to the organization or campaign rather than implying that performance alone guarantees donations.

Expert conversation and audience Q&A
Invite a nonprofit representative, beneficiary advocate, or subject expert to explain the issue and answer audience questions. Gather questions in chat, set aside time to respond, and state the donation route in the description and aloud during the program.
Timed community challenge
Set a specific goal and duration, then show progress as the event unfolds. YouTube’s fundraiser setup allows creators to set a goal and duration. Announce a matching gift only if one has actually been secured, and explain its real terms.

Multi-channel community fundraiser
When the channels and nonprofit meet YouTube Giving requirements, coordinate with other creators around one campaign. Agree in advance on who will host, how the cause will be explained, and which watch pages or scheduled streams will carry the fundraiser.
Creator revenue pledge
A creator can make original videos and pledge their own video revenue to a named nonprofit. Say exactly what revenue is included and how the donation amount will be calculated. YouTube prohibits attempts to inflate the pledge through ad clicks or repeated viewing, and it does not verify a creator’s separate pledge.

Pick the donation route before promoting the event
The on-platform Donate button is not available to every channel or charity. Confirm the route first, then advertise only what viewers will see and where their payment will go.
| Route | What viewers do | Important limits |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Giving Donate button or Live Chat Donations | Donate through YouTube on the watch page or in live chat. | Requires channel and nonprofit eligibility. Live Chat Donations replace Super Chat for Good; Super Chat and Super Stickers are unavailable on donation livestreams. Members-only live chat with the Donate button is not supported. | Creator’s own video-revenue pledge | Watch original creator content; the creator later donates the pledged revenue. | State the pledge and accounting method accurately. Check YouTube Giving eligibility
YouTube’s published creator criteria include all of the following conditions. Requirements and available locations can change, so verify the current lists in YouTube’s YouTube Giving FAQs before you promote an on-platform fundraiser.

- Your channel is in a location where YouTube Giving is available.
- Your channel has at least 10,000 subscribers.
- Your channel is a member of the YouTube Partner Program.
- Your channel is not designated Made for Kids.
- The nonprofit you intend to support is listed as an eligible organization and meets YouTube’s charity and platform requirements.
The 10,000-subscriber threshold is an eligibility condition, not a prediction of fundraising results. If any condition is not met, plan an external fundraiser or a clearly described creator pledge instead of promising viewers a YouTube Donate button.

- Confirm eligibility first. Check the channel’s location, subscriber count, YouTube Partner Program status, audience designation, and the nonprofit’s availability before publicizing the event.
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Earn → Giving. Create a fundraiser and select an available nonprofit.
- Fill in the campaign details. Add the fundraiser information, collaborators if applicable, and an optional goal and duration.
- Add the relevant video or scheduled livestream. Review the fundraiser and publish it. The Donate button appears after the fundraiser’s start date, not simply because a stream is scheduled. Follow the steps in Google for Nonprofits’ fundraiser setup guide.
- Choose whether to use live chat. If chat is on, Live Chat Donations can provide the donation path there. On mobile, viewers need portrait orientation to see live chat. If chat is off, YouTube says a Donate button may appear next to or below the stream.
- Check the viewer experience before the event. Confirm the fundraiser is attached to the right scheduled stream and that the campaign details and donation route are visible. YouTube explains the viewer donation flow in Donate to a nonprofit with YouTube Giving.
Donation livestreams have monetization trade-offs: Super Chat and Super Stickers are unavailable to avoid confusion, and Super Thanks is unavailable on videos with donations. YouTube says ads are not impacted. Review the current feature behavior in the YouTube Giving FAQs.

Set up an external donation path if YouTube Giving is unavailable
YouTube’s fundraising guidance names GoFundMe and JustGiving as examples of third-party fundraiser pages creators can link from end screens. Eligible YouTube Nonprofit Program partners may use Link Anywhere cards to send viewers to an external campaign landing page. Verify the provider’s current fees, payment options, and regional availability directly; those terms are not established by YouTube’s guidance.
- Use the organization’s real campaign page and verify the URL before putting it in the description, cards, or end screen.
- Tell viewers plainly that the donation happens on an external site, identify the organization receiving it, and avoid implying that YouTube processes or verifies that payment.
- If the creator is pledging personal video revenue instead, explain the calculation and timing honestly. YouTube says it does not verify a creator’s separate pledge.
Plan the stream format and equipment
You do not need special equipment just to fundraise. YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder livestreaming; the suitable setup depends on the program. A computer-webcam stream requires a webcam, while an encoder workflow may use a camera and microphone. YouTube’s live-streaming guide describes the available approaches.
- For a conversation or Q&A, prioritize intelligible audio and a reliable connection so viewers can follow the speakers and chat.
- For a performance or demonstration, check framing, sound, and any rights for music, artwork, or other material before going live.
- For a mobile stream, account for portrait orientation if you expect mobile viewers to use live chat for donations.
Be transparent about the money and the cause
For eligible YouTube Giving donations, YouTube says 100% of a contribution goes to the eligible nonprofit and YouTube pays transaction fees. Google uses Network for Good to collect and distribute the funds; YouTube notes that Network for Good has legal control once donations are collected. See the YouTube Giving FAQs and donation guidance for the platform’s explanation.
For any other route, be explicit about who receives the money and whether the payment is made through YouTube, an external provider, or a creator’s later pledge. Do not say that YouTube verifies a creator’s separate donation promise, and do not claim a match, outcome, or donation total you cannot substantiate.

For a prerecorded 24/7 campaign stream: let it run in the cloud
A continuous playlist can provide campaign programming between interactive fundraiser events, but it is not a substitute for a live host or a YouTube Giving fundraiser, and StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing needs to stay running on a home computer; uploaded quality streams as made up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and the service can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free day.
