How the 24/7 duration rules differ
Vimeo: a 12-hour standard-plan ceiling, with Enterprise extension
Vimeo’s current FAQ lists a maximum of 12 hours per stream on Advanced and Premium. It describes Enterprise as supporting up to three simultaneous streams, each with a 12-hour limit, and says streaming can be extended to 24/7 as an add-on. Premium lists up to three simultaneous streams and Advanced up to two. The same FAQ lists a 2 TB monthly bandwidth policy. These are Vimeo’s published plan limits, not a guarantee that a particular account qualifies for the Enterprise add-on; confirm availability and terms with Vimeo.

Restream: no stated duration cap, but plan daily restarts
Restream says it does not impose a stream-duration limit, while warning that a continuous stream longer than 24 hours may encounter server maintenance and recommending a restart every 24 hours. That makes it a plausible relay for long sessions, but not a promise of uninterrupted 24/7 operation. Build a restart and monitoring procedure rather than treating “no limit” as “no maintenance.”
YouTube: no cap stated, but archives stop at the 12-hour threshold
YouTube’s encoder guidance says it has no stream duration limit, but automatic archiving is for streams shorter than 12 hours. Do not rely on one uninterrupted 24-hour or multi-day feed to produce a complete replay. If VOD matters, divide programming into sessions under 12 hours and verify the resulting archives in YouTube Studio.

Choose based on what your channel needs
Choose Restream when a relay service and long-running sessions are the priority
- Its published guidance has no service-level duration cap, though it recommends a daily restart.
- It provides a setup route for connecting a YouTube channel; the reviewed guidance does not establish a comparable destination-count ceiling to Vimeo’s.
- Cost for needs longer than 24 hours is custom-quoted, so request current written pricing before committing.
Choose Vimeo when Vimeo’s event workflow or documented simulcast ceiling matters
- Vimeo’s direct YouTube integration supports up to 10 destinations, while its RTMP method supports up to 20.
- For 24/7 use, the published route is an Enterprise add-on rather than the 12-hour Advanced or Premium stream allowance.
- With Vimeo RTMP, a scheduled YouTube stream may still require someone to select Go live in YouTube Live Control Room. Test this operational handoff before expecting an unattended scheduled start.

Preflight: YouTube account access and stream activation
- Enable YouTube live streaming early. Restream’s YouTube setup guidance says first-time activation can require phone verification and a 24-hour wait. Do not leave enablement until the scheduled start.
- Connect the channel owner’s account. Restream says the connected Google account must own the YouTube channel; a manager or editor alone is not enough for this connection.
- Get the YouTube server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder workflow provides these in Live Control Room. Enter them in the encoder or relay’s destination settings. Keep the key private and limit access to the people and systems that need it.
- Run a private or unlisted test before going public. Confirm video, audio, destination, and start behavior. For Vimeo RTMP scheduling, explicitly test whether YouTube requires a manual Go live click at the time of the event.
- Decide how to create replay segments. If YouTube VOD archives matter, schedule sessions shorter than 12 hours and check that each replay is available after ending the session.
For any always-on setup, designate someone to monitor stream health, define who can restart it, and document how to recover from a dropped connection or service interruption. Vimeo recommends suitable equipment, early testing, rehearsal, and use of its stream-health monitoring. Neither service’s cited guidance establishes an uninterrupted-uptime guarantee.

Simulcasting to YouTube and other destinations
Vimeo’s documentation gives two specific ceilings: up to 10 destinations using the direct YouTube integration and up to 20 using RTMP. These limits are useful if one event must appear on many platforms. Restream’s reviewed YouTube setup page confirms connecting a YouTube channel but does not state a destination maximum, so compare the exact account terms rather than assuming the two services have equivalent limits.
The destination’s own controls still matter. A connected relay does not remove YouTube’s account eligibility, live activation, archive, or monetization rules.

Monetization, copyright, and prerecorded programming
Monetization is a YouTube eligibility question
YouTube’s encoder guidance says a channel in the YouTube Partner Program can monetize a live stream. Using Vimeo or Restream does not itself qualify a channel for the program. Check channel eligibility and YouTube’s applicable monetization policies rather than treating a relay subscription as a monetization shortcut.
Rights and originality still apply to loops
For prerecorded material, make sure you have the rights needed to stream every video, music track, image, and other included work. Repeatedly broadcasting content does not establish rights or guarantee monetization; YouTube’s channel-level eligibility and content policies remain relevant. Review the platform’s current rules before building a channel around reused or third-party material.

Costs and operational trade-offs
The reviewed Vimeo FAQ identifies 24/7 streaming as an Enterprise add-on but does not provide a comparable quote. Restream says needs beyond 24 hours should go to sales for custom pricing.
